I received over 50 PMs today regarding behavior issues. This is not just another forum, this is cafe husky. This should look familiar, although the grandmother comment is new: If you are in an unpleasant mood - do not post. If your goal is to get a rise out of someone - do not post. Please THINK before you post The applies to everyone: mods, sponsors, founding members, corporate members, and even myself. I marked 4 threads that need special attention, I would appreciate you members cleaning those up. If not I will clean them up after 5pm Pacific time on Saturday December 19th. There are many more threads that need attention besides those threads, when you find them, please fix them. I put up a dismissable notice with the rules in them, after you have read them again, click dismiss and that will go away.
Soooo, were we all put on timeout for being naughty? I don't really 'get it' if that's the case. None of the threads I've read were bad at all.
I feel two posts that I have read, partaken in have gone off the deeper end of a classy forum that Dean has created. If some of us are questionable we need to be directed to the corner and put on a Time Out. I know I come off brash some times, but that is who I am. Dean knows me a little I think from the Baja Trip in February. I apologize for input in the one thread if I was out of line, but I witnessed a couple of users getting in a debate and tried to defuse it with my humor. It might or might not have worked, but I tried. I don't give a darn about some ones opinion because everyone has one. Dean, I am sorry if I came off wrong in trying to defuse an argument. Crow is best eaten hot!
Yes I shut the forums down. No one could see them but me not even the moderators. No one needs to apologize. It would be best if people want to change any of their posts just to change them and not to dwell on it. Many of the posts have been changed by the people who made them. Except when asked to change peoples quoted posts, I've not done any editing. That is probably why threads do not seem 'that bad'. Thing is, we are above the typical forum BS. There is no need to aggressively give negative answers or disrespect other peoples opinions. This forum is unlike others in that regard. It occurred to me that many of the members that have joined simply have not read the thread titled "Rules" with 2 short posts in them, and had assumed this forum is like all the others. The better this forum is to visit, the more respect it will have, and the input given to the people designing the bikes will be taken seriously - which hopefully will result in better bikes.
How will we know which threads those are? I want to see them and the examples of what is bad etiquette so that I can be sure that I am not accidentally breaching any standards of the forum.
I am not aware of the posts that have caused offence, however I must support the principle that Cafe Husky is and must remain open to fair and reasoned argument. I enjoy logging on and reading about issues and solutions. I enjoy watcjing the odd Husky video and happy snaps. I especially enjoy getting quality feedback that invariably resolves my questions. This station is differentiated from the others because it is respectful, fair and reasonable. I know it will stay that way. Ciao.
I'd like to, but as far as I can tell they are fixed, and by the authors themselves. I and the moderators have done nothing in that regard. It is a little tough for anyone to read every thread these days, the forum is quite active. This was in another thread, and it says what I am getting at quite well. Thank you! You said perfectly what I was getting at.
I would just like to say I am very impressed on how our members have been able to handle their own post without having them edited by Dean or the moderators. This little episode shows that we are all mature adults who are capable of digesting others opinions without negative remarks. Now that this is behind us, we will be able to moderate are own posts. And make Deans job a lot easier.
Well, I don't think I was one of the people who posted something inappropriate. However I was punished in a very kindergarten justice sort of way, and frankly I resent it. I think this whole episode was handled very poorly, and very obtusely. If you have a problem with what somebody says, then tell them, or even ban them if need be. IMO people figure it out pretty quickly or they go away. Either way, problem solved. Shutting down the site to get the attention of three people strikes me as incredibly rash. And ineffective. We all think we post appropriately, some of us are just wrong Further, please explain this post to me coffee: You said in the notice that if your intention is to get a rise don't post. And yet you let this completely off-topic incendiary remark go unchallenged. Personally, I find such comments completely offensive. At ADV it's at least relegated to Jo Momma, do I really have to read such tripe in a thread about the 630? So I guess I'm Confused as to what is appropriate and what isn't. This episode, to me at least, seems like you had a (over)reaction or off-day.
