I'm having issues getting a part due to the mailing system here and will be needing to take measures to get my 010 TC250 back like it should be ... Does anyone see or know of any reason why the starter shaft cannot be welded back together?
After removing the small piece broken off in the shaft, I'm not so sure now ... Looks like if welded, the splines will need to be re-cut ... Not sure on that part ..
Ray that sucks. No way can you weld that, will interfere with the splines and is heat treated. - I will get one from Bills and send it to you if need be.
Kidding right? hardened steel. The issue is everything ion that motor is miniaturized and 2010 TC250 can be a problematic starter so they get kicked 20x more than most bikes.
You enjoyed my bit of humor though. haha That's not a simple weld job, no. Could it be welded by someone really inventive with copper jigs, Tig and plasma arc welder... yes, but it will have to be reheat treated and cost prohibitive.
Thanks for the help and kind words..., but I should have waited one more day before opening my big mouth as I have the new part now ... The part was shipped over the Christmas & New Yrs holidays and delayed it about 8 extra working days .. I count the days on shipping and know it takes 10 working days at least to arrive ... As bad as the Philippines is talked about for mail, I've never lost anything in > 10 shipments ... I know I gotta wait patiently here and I'm better at it as I get older but I still far short on occasions ... All things on islands move slower it seems ... Just the way it is on normal life ... No one but foreigners get in a hurry here ... Same as when I was in Hawaii .. This bike does take a few more kicks but all the top riders who have ridden it have no real problem ... It seems like it is in the stroke ...Its gotta be right at TDC, maybe just past and a smooth easy push down on the lever all the way through to the bottom ... With my lightweight a$$, I can't always get that precise motion from top to bottom ... Any of those kicks off TDC are about a waste of time it seems ... Also, the TXC bike needs the same type push down BUT seems like the engine spins an extra revolution push than the TC with the same stroke (not sure but seems that way from the seat) ... After I get away from the house and into the mountains, its a non-event as I bump it to save my old butt energy as needed ... The TC also idles so well and never stalls, without a big rider error, that bike will run all day long if you let it idle when resting... The one thing this bike does do, which you gotta look out for is , sticking at TDC ... You gotta bump it off that when it happens ..I almost think my friend did not bump it off when it stuck (not being aware of this issue) OR he was just over kicking it ... Hes a 2T guy and I was standing right there when the kicker hit the dirt ... His eyes got big, big and his mouth fell open when it happened ... It was as much my fault as his as I should have said don't kick it ... ... All that meant to me was, he's racing my 250 2T and I'll ride the 250 4T... -- The welding was a act of desperation by me ... I knew you guys would know what was up with the welding ...
