So finally demolished my fox trackers, my dealer had these on sale so I pulled the trigger. What a difference!! Coming from an all leather boot to these alpinestars is truely amazing. Paid $189 decided on the flashy white instead of the black. Not sure I made the right choice in color...I know they are on the cheap end of the boot scale but for the money these are very nice.
Same as jack ive got forma dominator tx's dam good boot and still like new as i only use them for events... Ride in tackies during leisure n practice.
Made the same decision for pretty much the same reasons last year. Nice looking new boot for a good price at a local family owned shop. I liked the support and general feel but had issues finding the shifter. Cruising around this wasn't a big issue but when things got rough the lack of "feel" resulted in more than a few misses. Felt like the shifter would just slip off the plastic toe piece unless I angled my foot to get way under it. Not good for keeping good position on the bike. Maybe I'd get used to them but most likely going for something different this year. Interested in others thoughts as well.
I like the Formas, too. Had a pair of the old style ones. I have a set of their Adventure boots and a set of the ICE PRO road racing boots. I'd like to get a set of the Boulders for trail riding too. Right now, I'm wearing SIDI Crossfire SRS boots. I know they are way up there on the price scale, but definitely worth it (plus I always manage to find some on sale).
I ride Oneal myself. I get ridiculously good deals on them as a sponsor. I've never even had a $500 pair of boots in my life. I figure if I don't get hooked on the expensive stuff, I won't miss it. I do still have a pair of old Fox Comp2 Ricky Johnson boots that were made by Alpinestars. They fit like slippers.
Haven't ridden in them yet I hope the shifter feel is good. Had the old fox trackers for 15 years lol. Blew out the side and buckles pulled out of the leather...they were toast. Looked at the sidi but super expensive, $375 to me. Never even heard of the formas very nice looking boot. Also looked at the fox comps but just trying the alpinestars on the comfort level was way better.
Gaerne SG11 or SG12 for me. I've tried most of the high end boots but like these the best. For me the cost is worth it. They protect my feet/ankles so much better than lower end boots. The buckles are great and they are easy to maintain.
well broken in alpinestar hi-points...just had em resoled! super comfortable. cant get used to the all plastic boots..im sure these arent as protective as the extremely armored boots but i also find the extremly armored boots wont flex at all..these seem to strike a nice balance for the woods work i do. shifter, peg, and brake feel is superb, especially with the new sidi soles
I broke both ankles with the best at the time Tech 8s. Boots are no match for a 235 lb mx bike landing on them in the whoops or over jumping an enduro bike on an mx track and bottoming out, snap. Gaerne for me now, buy em and go race.
Sidi Chargers. I don't really look at anything but Sidi because all of their boots and bicycle shoes are seemingly on a similar last or at least shape and always can depend on a size 45 being right and lasting many years. Hard to budget shop Sidi but the Chargers are good and just ordered the Black Rain Sidi for some sport touring boots when touring on the Multistrada.
What's diff with chargers n cross fires john? I had crossfires they were quality n lasted well but with tha Aus dollar tankin they're back to the $600 mark. Currently runnin Acerbis xmove(pivot type boot). Lastin well, look good n were only $245 on close out from Aus bike shop as new model now out.
The Chargers are a step down but I could not tell very much difference in functionality. I did get hit a year ago by a Yamaha riders foot or footpeg into my left calf while stopped and he was charging and I was not damaged. I credit the boot with saving my race and leg. Motosport has them both listed to compare.... http://www.motosport.com/sidi-charger-boots
I had a set of Chargers. They are pretty light weight. Seem more for dual sporting than serious moto.
I wish the Sidi Crossfires fit my feet as well as my Sidi street boots do. The Crossfire buckles are the best in the business.
I love my Sidi boots. Two and a half years so far and no damage, busted clips whatever. Had some good hits on sticks etc in single tracks and my fret survive, plus they're comfortable, Great boots.
