I tried the search with no luck, so I'm asking everyone what oil are they using? I just read that Husky recommends AGIP 10W 60 oil, but I was told told to use MOTUL OIL 300V 15W50 SYNESTR 4L. Any input would appreciated.

Now they have a relationship via BMW parent company with Castrol.

Generally, a motorcycle specific petroleum based 20-50 in mild climates, 10-60 in colder climes for the break in period of say 500 mi. or so. Then a similar oil in semi-synthetic.

I use Spectro OFF ROAD 20-50. There are several Spectro oils but only one says OFF ROAD.

Others use the Agip, Motorex, or one of the other motorcycle specific oils you can find in the dealerships or parts houses that are for four strokes. Motul would fall into that group.

I've tried several different brands. Motul300V, Motorex PowerSynt 4T, Maxima 530R,
last couple changes I've used Repsol 4T. None of them are cheap, $24 to $30 for two liters but I'll suck it up and splurge just for piece of minds sake.

I know this is a bit of an older thread but things have changed since I last looked at an "what oil are you using?" thread. When I first got my 610 in '08 guys said they were using Rotella with no issues. Have things changed? I don't see anyone talking about it. Is Rotella on the do not use list now?

Same here I love motul 300v, but anything that is 100% ester based is really good, I think silkoleen is also ester based.

I'm using Castrol full synthetic 10W-50. I can also get 10W-60 locally, but I read on one of the european versions of the Husqvarna website that while they recommend 10W-60 for all of their bikes, 10W-50 is acceptable/approved for the 610 (610 only). I can't find the link right now, but I do have a printed copy of it at home in my service manual binder. Since the 10W-50 is about $8 a liter cheaper, I'm going with that.

Lots of guys use Rotella and report good things. I use it some. IMHO all modern oils are pretty good. I'm of the buy the mid range price stuff like Rotella and change it often camp.

I splurged and bought a case of Agip 10W60 off Ebay, but I also have several quarts of Amsoil 20W50 laying around. Of course both are great oils formulated for motorbikes. Does anyone see trouble with mixing them half and half? I just don't want any additives to "cancel out." If they do, then I'll probably just alternate oils. Bike is a 610.. also curious as to why 10W50 is acceptable for a 610 but not other Huskys.

I think the reasoning had to do with SOHC vs. DOHC.

By the way, hi Barterer! I did a double-take when I saw your user name here. Looked at your other posts and read about the SM... :applause:

Oil questions can start a long heated debate...See K_MTalk & TT. I've used Rotella T Dino in my 2007 XC-W 400 & 2006 SM 610 for a long time now. I change it semi-often with great results. I'm just now replacing the original clutches in my auto-clutch 400. They didn't feel/sound/look bad, just thought it might be time to do so. Been very happy with Rotella.

Well.. heehee.. thanks. Maybe next month I'll actually have it, but it's pretty much arranged. It is a 2006 model that has mostly sat idle. It only has 2000 miles and a little corrosion. The FCR carb is similar to the one I had on my DRZ, so the whole airbox/jetting/pipe thing should be a cinch.. if even necessary. The bike rocks as-is.

About the oil: Since the 610 is more flexible with the viscosities I think I will use up the 20W50 during the summer months, and go back to 10W come fall.

I use Motul e-tech 100 10/40 and have zero problems. I change it about 300 miles or so. I probably change it sooner than is necessary, but it's how I roll.

I buy the good stuff and still change it often, really it isn't expensive verses a rebuild. I ride my bike pretty hard and hot so any extra insurance is welcome.
