I just bought a 08 510 SMR, and was wondering what oil do you guys use in them. The previous owner used Motul 300v 10w40, but its gonna be pretty expensive along with the 500 mile oil changes I plan to do. Thanks!

I have used everything in my 07 450, all pure mineral base. I started out with Maxima 20-50, used the Motul mineral base 20-50. When I didn't have much money, I used both Rotella 15-40 and Supertech (Walmart) 15-40.

I was using Castrol racing 1 10w-60 was sold here and was affordable, but it was getting expensive, I switched to this Valvoline Synpower 10w-50, fully synthetic, that was good price also was working good and was lasting in my oil exchange cap what was 500-800km depending my throttle/rpm use.

To me that your oil is wrong 10w-40 is too low viscosity, when factory say 10w-60, so you can test it, all motorbike 4stroke engine oil is good, but you need that 10w-60 but at least 10w-50 viscosity. When i´am start to taking my bike back to use, i would start use this Motul 300V 2 factory line 10w-50 fully synthetic

I’ve been running Mobil 1 0W-40 for many years now without problems. I used to run rotella 5w-40 with no problems either. The bike shifts and runs better with 0w-40. In fact, all of my different 4 stoke engines are using 0w-40. When I first got my 08’ TE510 I was running 10w-60 and the shifting was terrible. I stuck with the factory recommendation for maybe a year and gave up on that. Everyone will have a different opinion on oil, but if you do some searching here, you will find these two oils have been used for a long time without issue.
