Right i got just under 60 hours outta my rings on 360 2002 oem ordered from duelsport husky dealer were £40+ vat n post.
Is this good or bad i ride every chance i get so lasted about 6months.
Do i buy wossner set or can i buy 78.9mm rings for piston?
Im happy clearance checking and filing to suit end gaps.

    Thank you in advance

60 hours sounds terrible, honestly...especially on a bigger cc 2 stroke. did it start losing compression? im probably getting close to that on my 360 and when i had the pipe off everything looked mint in there. i would expect 100 hours before needing anything.

ive heard from an engine builder/engineer that its not a good idea to just change rings only
Should do both piston and rings
Not sure of exact reason but apparently causes more wear of Nikasil due to ring and piston not perfectly matched ?

I just had the top end off my 165 after 106 hours on the same piston and ring, Ring gap had only grown 3 thou.
I have been useing Castrol A747 mixed at 40.1 Why? because I was given a rather large box of it lol
Many say the castor gums things up! Not in my case - piston looks like it had done about 10 hours run time, crank was lathered in a nice film of oil, power valves were spotless as was the head, Only carbon visable was the burn pattern on the piston and the core of the silencer when I repacked it had a little carbon in the perforations which surprised me as I get no spooge at all other than a damp patch around the outlet, What did I do ? I slung it all back together for another 50 hours of fun.
Trigs 125 showing 65 hours running the same mix again showed the self same results but had a tiny bit of blow by so got a new piston although looking at it it could of just had a ring .
Moral of the story would be that a good 2 stroke oil does wonders for your top end, Not sure if the Lectrons help with the clean running but must say I was impressed with both engines spotless running.

Yeh ive got a lectron and run full synthetic putoline mx5, im agressive and always looking for 7th on husky thats probably why top end lasted no time as for piston and rings i would if i had £160 to sink into a piston right now but done it before and seized spanking new wossner in freash bored 1993 cylinder after 17hours of riding looked like a lack of oil seize but was half way through my 20l fuel premix so like wtf..?
Old head n piston in yes compressions way down.

castor oil is excellent. been using it for years and it would be tough to get me to switch. well over 200 hours on my original piston and rinG in my 88. it does not get babied. it doesnt get screamed down the road in 6th gear for miles but it does get its neck wrung plenty. im also at 40:1. it burns clean so i see no reason to go with less oil.

you may be hard on the ol girl there pips but something still doesnt add up for me. no dirt getting in?

Thanks your my new favorwit fwwrend... Yeh i hate to say but the only thing putting me off is the cost i dont care about being hands on its how i live... But affording a piston in under 100 hours n rings almost half that im like "really?"
My old 125 had 2years on a £40 piston n rings could start it by hand but still kept up, am thinking small bore is the way ahead.

    Buy my bike!

Thats way to quick for rings to be done. Should last 2x that. I would try and different brand piston and ring set. Also I think it is OK it replace the rings on a piston with that low of hours but would for sure get the same brand rings as the piston as they are not all interchangeable.

I know I can't really help on this but how do you even get to the top of 6th gear on our roads? The only time I can hit top speed is dual carrigeway or at 1am, too much traffic down south to get near powerband

Thanks kelly, im confused too the fact is i can get the cylinder replated for less than a piston costs.. Will go gillardoni with rings if my ims tank sells should pay half that.. Lol may just get the thing nikasiled n put back to std A bore.
What you think? Bottom ends been done have one of the best carbs in the world and i love the handleling i LOVE THE BIKE, just sick and tired of the gammy engine just cant figure what ive done wrong or had go wrong, will go castor anyway as it smells divine and obviously the putolines not working for me.

Fuel filter, air filter, engine temps. Wear is about abrasion. I'd also suggest putting your carb air vent hoses up under the tank or seat, with a bit of old air filter taped around the ends. I've had dirt in my fuel bowl on a few occasions before I did that. Rering that baby and ride it.

Too slow chicken merango had those long vents up under seat from day one. I let her warm up for min 5mins blipping throttle, rads both hot top to bottom before i put my arse on the seat! Ive nurtured this bike from the day i owned her an shes rewarded me with sh@ since. Shese not called "the bitch" for nothing used to be bad jetting sorted that.. Now its excess wear.
Like Banging head against a brick oh i cant remember the saying door or i want to say window.

I'm not saying you're wrong but I do wana see the 360 on video or headcam maybe, good you warm it up though, I've always done it on the husky, the rs 125, the rx50, I don't know how people can cold start a 2 stroke and just ride off, if I try it my bike just chokes along, plus I've never had a cold seizure this way

i idle em for about 30 seconds and then ride but never put them under too much load for till they get a chance to build up heat. you guys probably do it better giving it longer but i can never wait that long.

i hate to say changing your oil will help this issue but ive been running the klotz super techniplate 80% syn 20% castor a long time. smells awesome and has proven reliable to me. maxima also makes a syn/castor blend that many like. klotz makes a straight castor based oil called benol but its mostly racing only and is intended for more frequent teardowns but helps produce max power and max protection. alot of micro sprint racecars in my area use benol in their cr250 powered cars as castor blends with many fuels easily including methanol. man that is rich stuff, i would not run that in my bike.
many of its properties are over my head but castor does some interesting things when exposed to high heat and pressure.
