Get the YZ and put a WR tranny in it with a FWW and a recluse.

Get the YZ. More durable and great motors. The RMs are OK but twitchy and not as well built IMHO. Hard to beat a good old YZ250.

Last winter I picked up a '07 YZ250 and have turned it into my 2nd woods bike. I added a 18" rear wheel, 8oz FWW, FMF gnarly and Q-stealth SA, Zip-Ty racing 3 gal tank, Rekluse z-start pro, throttle cam, RB Designs head mod. I've since replaced the stock carb with a Lectron and gone back to the stock tank. This setup gives me ~60 mile range without carrying a bunch of extra fuel. I've also removed the FWW since it felt like it made the bike harder to get stopped, and with the Rekluse you don't have to worry about stalling. Next I'm going to try going back to a 50T rear sprocket (stock) to see if I can make 2nd and 3rd gear more usable on the trail. I've been running a 48T and rarely need more than 1st and 2nd.

ks right YZs are hard to beat in the woods with a few mods but husky WRs add barkbusters and ride it unless you want to have the joy involved in modding the YZ
Al H and Motosportz like this.

I see two husqvarna bikes in your post - not sure why we're talking RM and YZ? You want to compare these three?

Yeah pretty much. For people that have ridden 250 MX bikes vs more woods focused bikes like the WR, what are the pros and cons. I have no problem bolting on a rekluse or fww but going as far as Trans work no thanks.. Only problem with the 06 up YZ is they seem to really hold there value.. like 4000 plus which is ridiculous considering you can get a new one for around 6000. I'd say I have a budget of 3000.

pro to WXC250 in 95 6 speed, so it's a real woods bike already
great power, not bagging on the YZ but you give up a gear and need to change the rear to an 18" right off the bat
the plastics are easier to get for the YZ is the only real plus i see

I would get the 2008 Husky WR 250 in the Ad. Ready to go in the woods.

I was thinking YZ when I started looking for a 2t, but I wanted 2004 for the steel frame and upgraded forks. I saw plenty in the 1500-2500 range. When the wr300 came on the radar I couldn't resist. I'd offer 2600-2800 for that 2011 and make sure the sub-frame didn't get tweaked when the rear fender was broken. Def an upgrade from your 250, if that's what you're looking for.
If you're looking for a project for the winter a YZ would be a blast. Not familiar with which RM to get and which to avoid.

If you're willing to drive widen your search area: PA, SoVA WV maybe. I saw great prices and plenty of choices.

    good luck

+1. I have had many Japanese 250s. Good bikes but lack overall package of the Husky WR. I do also have a 99 KX250 that I bought for $500 and I'm impressed with motor wise regarding low end power/torque (98/9 and 04 motors are amazing). Between RM and YZ I would go RM due to better handling and more useful power delivery for woods riding. YZs break rear wheel traction constantly. I've had three of them. One with Rekluse. Hard to get traction comparatively. If you want super aggressive hard hitting MX like power the Husky WR250/300 with TMX carb in the top end range of power is that. It's also the opposite for when you want to go slow. MX bikes lack this double feature.

$2500 for the '08 WR250 is a good deal. My '08 WR is the best woods bike I've ever owned. Plenty of power and turns on a dime.
