It's a mix of both KTM 300's.... It has the engine tuning and transmission ratios of the XC-W and the frame, forks, triple clamps and shock of the XC. Husky Factory and support riders who race the TE300, usually bring the motor to XC spec. This includes... XC or SX head, XC or SX CDI, 1st and 2nd gear XC transmission.

    Merry Christmas John.

So far I see no need for more motor First is crazy low and really only usable in the super rocky. As for hills 2nd is better as first is to low
I like 2nd thru 6th and sometime forget what gear I am in as it really works well. It is not as fast as my Italian 300 with the CR flywheel but it really does not matter as the over all bike is better. The new bike seems lighter but they both weigh about the same the new bike feels more balanced. My old Italian 300 with the Ohliens is still one great bike and in a higher speed race with more open area might be better. But when it really gets nasty and with lots of turns the new TE is really impressing me. Now if we could just get to next year and start racing.

Thanks norman I know nothing about the KTM line up and just wanted to know how the new Husky lined up to the orange bikes. Since they are some what the same.

I can't wait to see the changes in 17, they saved an unbelievable amount of weight on all the redesigned ones.

Glad you're liking the new ride ajax. Where are the videos? :)

Ktm 300 xc would be the closest overall. Plastic subframe and w transmission on the te300 are the big difference. No lighting coil on the xc

XC has a lighting coil, but no light kit. Wiring harness is all there on newer models. The first few years of the XC model, they had no harness.

Only 1st and second are different on the 6 speeds. The old 5 speed XC had all different ratios, compared to the XC-W.

I'm glad you decided to get that 300 John. Otherwise I wouldn't have a nice 250 to race this season. Off to Utah tomorrow for some high altitude training. Pounding out runs is good leg exercise.

John, the three years you waited you saved a ton of money to buy your new bike, now that I think about it you probably saved enough to buy several of the ktms.

I have a 12 300 xc, a 14 300xcw and a 15 TE300. They are each there own bike, but I would say the TE is like the love child of the xcw and the xc. It is strong in the motor but well mannered. I love them all.

I have a UK 2016 TE300, and a mate has a 2016 300XC. The engines from crank up are identical, so barrel, piston, head, pipe, CDI box, carb, jetting chart all same part numbers, which means they should perform the same. But, apart from the rear linkage, they have very little in common - frame, wheels, swing arm, rear spindle, rear subframe, bars, bar mounts, fuel tank, plastics, forks, rear shock, clutch, gearbox, sprockets, chain guides, electrics etc etc all different.
He got a reasonable deal on the XC, but the amount of extra expense to get it to EXC road legal standard nearly outweighed it, and it's still not road legal yet due to paperwork problems!
Someone said above, the XC now has lighting coil, nope, not in UK, my mates bike is running lighting DC directly off battery / charging circuit - it's 'just' coping with on load voltage of 13.2V. We thought he would need a new stator with a lighting coil.
When we bought our bikes, we thought they would be 2 similar KTM's wearing different plastics, but the more we looked into the detail, the more we realised how different each bike was.

US spec XC do have a lighting coil... stator part number is the same for US spec TE300 and 300XC. I'm used to 250's and the US spec TE250 has same CDI part number of a 250EXC (XC-W), not the 250XC part number, but all 300's... TE, XC, EXC (XC-W) have one part number.

The plot thickens! I've checked part numbers of stators, and all 2016 EXC, XC, TE, 250 and 300 have same part number. So my mates bike 'should' have a lighting coil. He was told by the KTM dealer that sold it to him, it definately hasn't got a lighting coil, and would need a new stator to power any lights. So he wired the lights to the battery and hoped for the best. We need to look into this further, and if it has actually got a coil, wire it up properly.
