I already have the race head fitted but Im still in need of more power to tackle the big dunes.

Are there any workshops out there that can machine my stock 300 head to give me more HP than the power parts race head without blowing my bike up? :D

Maybe you are ready for some port work?

Needing more power than a stock 300 - you are crazy!!! :D

I think I want my bike to be as light as a 2 stroke but have similar pulling power from the bottom end as a thumper without loosing the 145klm hr top speed

Or Eric Gorr from forward motion but he is really busy.

Joe machined my head to my specs and installed a compression release for my 430 Dune killer

Excellent thanks. Only problem is I dont know didly about how much it needs to be machines to.

What were you looking to achieve with the work you had done?
Maybe I can use similar specs if it was a straight increase in HP :D

Im based overseas. Can you send me their contact details?
Im happy to ship it anywhere to get the work done as I cannot afford a CR500 wedged into a CRF250 frame which is my next choice

This guy from RB Designs gets a lot of good reviews for 2 st head and carb work. Not sure if he is familiar with Huskys

RB is good. But really if you need more I would send the head and cylinder off for porting. From your location I bet you can get race gas cheap so you might be able to gain some power with a race gas only head. If that is not enough you might want to get a CR ignition.

With head and port work can I still run standard gas? Dont really want to run race gas.

I think you're a little overly optimistic on what head mods can achieve.

Now, if you get the head worked in conjunction with porting and carb work to run high-oxygenated race fuel then you're looking at big horsepower numbers. And a large work order bill to go along with it as good tuners wont port a coated cylinder and they'll have to strip the cylinder coating, port the jug and then have the jug re-nikasiled.

If you really want power then send it to Pro Circuit and have Mitch Payton recreate you a Glenn Kearney-spec motor with the domed-top Gas Gas piston and CR ignition. I even have 2hr old a Gas Gas piston I'll sell real cheap!

If you want to do it in steps and you want a big gain in step #1 then get the CR ignition. That is one mod you'll instantly reap the benefits of. And it will also play well with the high end motor mods you're on the path to doing. Or you'll end up selling the Husky and buy the AF500. Wish I had $11k laying around for one of those!

Buy a used $2000 KX500 and save your WR300 for the other stuff.

What is the CR ignition your referring to captain PC? Is this a bolt on mod ?

Is the CR ignition mod, just a replacement of the CDI thingo or is there more to it?
How much does it cost roughly?

I'm in agreement with PC, if you don't want to run race gas then skip the head work, unless the Husky Race head still isn't set up right. I that case just find someone to set it up to optimum settings and be done with it.

The complete ignition system from an '02 CR250 is the hot set up, even if you add the STEAHLY 10 or 12oz FLYWHEEL WEIGHT.

You will need the stator / rotor 8000 91952 and the CDI box, but I recommend you get the JD ignitions unit.

It's pretty much a plug and play set up and you can use the WR coil.

Couple that with your head, a Pro Circuit pipe, silencer and Keihin carb kit and your bike will run extremely well.

If you want the ultimate dune bike, then get an ATK 700 two stroke.

So it is not the new Ducati ignition that is the ducks nuts??
If I keep my Mikuni, stock pipe and silencer, will it still make a difference??

    Sorry about the hijack, Sandgroper:thumbsup:

I've been talking to some people about using the '11 ducati stator and flywheel and the CR JD CDI module. If you use the CR ignition you lose the lighting coils. Will update as I dig into to this.

So you would have to rewind the CR stator for extra oomph??
