Why do the newer models (efi) vibrate more ?

COUPLE OF MATES HAVE 450'S AND 510'S... 08/09 BIKES.. AND MINE IS SO SMOOTH AS IS ANOTHER GUYS O6 BIKE.. EFI BIKES VIBRATE LIKE HELL IN COMPARISON... WHY ? ITS LIKE SITTING ON A WASHING MACHINE ON SPIN CYCLE (ACCORDING TO THE WIFE ! ) OR AS FAR AS I AM CONCERNED, LIKE A HARLEY ON IDLE... VERY HARD AND VIBRATING... DONT LIKE IT ! ...LOL..

Probably has more to do with a counter balancer or lack thereof. Incorrect fuel mixture can affect engine smoothness, mostly felt at idle, regardless of carb or efi.

I find my 2010 TXC250 with EFI smooth. :excuseme: i have not noticed any EFI/Carb smoothness different when hopping off my old 08 TXC450 onto a 08 TE450/510 with EFI which i did a lot a few years ago because i rode with two buddies with them. (Fintness2go / BTC) some years had counterbalancers some did not, i bet thats what you are feeling.

I'd appreciate it if you could compose a well worded question without using the caps lock.

Thank you very much in advance.

For several months this year a co-worker on another coast was contacting me through a chat messaging program at work and I couldn't figure out why he was always using all caps and one day I asked why because it made his tech questions hard to read and he replied it was probably happening because of his font. I didn't follow up to find out what font, but at least now I know he's not yelling at me. Interesting link supporting this:
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Netiquette

Also, all caps is just less readable. I'm not trying to harp on you rabskyline. Just thought I'd share in case you aren't intending all caps. Personally, I'd prefer no caps to all caps.

    I'll go with this:
"like many Internet phenomena, the concept and its application...vary from community to community."

This is a small tight knit community, and the easier it is to communicate the easier it is for people to help and give input.

I still cannot figure out the first post. Did the wife ride one of the newer bikes? Did the OP ride one of the newer bikes and compare it to his 2005 TE510?

Was there any comparison to the 2006/2007 bikes that did not have efi, but were very similar to the 2008/2009 efi bikes?

okay mr grumpy pants (coffee) ! . i type and hit caps lock by mistake and not that interested on perfect grammar and punctuation.. sorry !

i rode the bikes (the wife bit was just a funny add on.. well, to me it was ) .. seems it may be lack of balance shaft although the dealer tells me engines are practically same.. so maybe efi ? anyhow, i was just putting it out there, didnt expect a thread on grammar and wikipedia's tinterweb etiquette !

oh and just to be a pain.... its aluminium and colour and tyre....its just English, no such thing as American English or Microsoft English.. just my two bobs worth ! ;)

(dont take that seriously for christ sake ! :) )

If it is 1/2 order vibration (once for every two revolutions) it is due to misfire, which you will also feel as a loss of power when you are riding.

All other vibration is related to the movement of the piston, connecting rod, crankshaft...

I see, what is a feature on a Harley (the Milwaukee Vibrator) is a deficit on a Husky.

I think you could blame some on the lack of counter balancer. I've had one knowledgeable person mention that the vibration actually becomes worse with your hands on the throttle. Isolating via a nice roller bearing throttle tube COULD lessen it. I have a 08 TE 250 and don't notice an unpleasant level...also have the throttle tube.

Why an 06 TE should feel smoother I'm not sure unless it's actually an 05 production bike?

05 had balancer and small valves, 06 TE lost the balancer and valve sizes increased to up the power output. 05 bikes are noticeably different to 06, the rest should be pretty similar whether they be carb or EFI...

    SMR still has the balancer.

mine is an o5 bike (reg 06) so maybe thats it.. balancer... so why remove it if it does such a good job ? in saying that, it was only at idle so probably doesnt matter...

Make sure the engine mounts are tight. I had one that was not and it felt like the rod was going.

The balancer was taken out to make the bike 'snappier' (less internal rotating mass) and to reduce the overall weight of the engine. This makes it more of a race bike, however a number of people seem to like the softer 05 motor for trail riding.

We have a 2010 TE 250 and no vibration at all.. just clean smooth running.

I would look at motor mount bolts being loose or put your hand or the motor at idle and increase throttle to see it it gets worse or better.

Usually it is some thing loose

    Hope it helps.

I think it's especially important to check bolts when a bike is new.
