So, after looking things over on the web, I have found out about the old BajaDesigns wide-ratio trans for the CRF (no longer made). I also found some posts on TT about a guy that was supposed to be getting custom gears made for his TE back in 2007.

However, there is no follow up online.

So, what do you guys know? I know some of you were following it back then (or have remarkably similar screen names ).

I know many have looked into doing something like having a set of overdrive 6th gears made up. In the end it just didn't look like something that was going to be worth the investment. As far as I know no one has followed up on it.

Yeah if only Husky did the yards by stretching out 5th and 6th gear it would really be an amazing outcome.

Heh, I have dirt ratios on my 450 again and it's agony over 100kmh on tarmac. Mebbe if a hundred of us clubbed together for development costs someone (like George at Uptite say) could get some 5th +6th gear pairs made up. Won't be cheap though.

The expense is in splitting the case to change them, for years Husky made specific long suspention travel desert racer enduro bikes and short travel woods enduro, don't know why a trail version gear set isn't an option,it would sell

I guess the new wider ratio Beemers make it a bit obsolete for us with the Cagiva motors. But my old Husky is a keeper and it'll come apart for some work on it's guts next winter so I'd pay for a wider gearset.

I don't need more reason than to change the gearing. Here in the desert, I have the slowest top end (by A LOT) but I don't want to gear 1st up any more because of technical climbs.

I also noticed in the owner's manual that they list the same gearing for the TE250 as the TE450. I don't know how they can show the same internal gears, the same sprockets, same rear wheels but end up with 6th for my 250 as the same ratio as 4th for the TE450 (final drive listing).

You may have found a mistake, the newer pre 2010 250/450/510/310 bikes all use the same gearbox - although sprockets are always subject to change.

The primary (crank to clutch basket) drive ratios change too, but that doesn't affect the gaps between the gears either. :)

    True. Forgot about that.

They seem to like to change those fairly frequently last I checked. One year / model may be different than the next.

OK, that was just a tiny blurb that I missed a couple of pages back, yes the primary drive is different and the transmission is the same.

So I definitely would be interested in something that either gives me a lower 1st or, preferably, a higher 5th and 6th with a larger percentage gap between the two of them.

Yeah I feel the bulk of us are happy with first through fourth but would relish a larger widening out for fifth and sixth.

This one of the reasons I joined this forum! I was hoping someone knew a way to change the higher gears to give my 510 some longer legs!

Not much consolation, but it looks like the 2011 TE459/511 will solve this issue. From what I've read, it will have the BMW G450X motor and will go from a five speed (that was too wide) to a six speed, that should be just right. But...in their infinite wisdom...they have deleted the kick starter! ARGGHHHH!
