Hi Guys I am hearing differing opinions to this, I have found a set of SM wheels of an 03 for a good price, but do not want to hand over the cash util I confirm they will fit. Can anyone help me please. Cheers Guys Craig
Hi Craig, I'm pretty sure the front spindle at least is a different diameter and the hubs are different which may mean different spacing. I don't think they will be a straight forward fit. Cheers...Dave
Thanks, Dave. That was what I was fearing. So the back wheel will be a straight forward fit, but the front will take some work. Can anyone let me know if it would take a complete re-lace with a new hub, or would I be able to get spacers etc machined to make up the differences. Thanks for your hep guys, I love the bike, but having to give up my road bike to make room for the TE, it would be great to easily swap to road wheels. Cheers again Craig
Get 'em It will work fine with some minor tweaking. The spindle is the same. the hub is the same except the rotor mounting screws on the SM are 8mm and the TE is 6mm. You can drill out a TE rotor to fit. The front caliper set up on the SM is different so you will have to use the TE caliper and stock disk or go with an aftermarket 320mm disk and caliper bracket...no biggie Keep in mind the SM forks are spaced wider than the TE so a huge tire might rub....a narrower will fix this if it is a problem. It is harder to put TE wheels on an SM.
Does year matter with this response? He's talking 03 wheels on an 09 bike. I would have thought the hubs would be different between the older stuff and the new stuff, more along the lines of what Husky Sport said.
I've had the chance to check the parts catalog now - hubs are different, spindles different and looking at the wheel bearing sizes it appears the front spindle is 2mm larger diameter on the 08/09 TE. Anything is possible but it won't be a straight forward fit. Cheers...Dave
I believe the axle sizes changed in '02.....the hubs are basically the same. The old beairngs are different. I run an 01 wheel on my 04 Wr250 with a bearing change. The big issue is see if the old wheel has the sprocked spaced out 1/4 inch like the new 4 stroke rear wheels. The 03 may use 2 stroke rear hubs!
