2012 WR150. I finished a 2 day qualifier in southern California last weekend with no problems at all - the bike started first kick and ran great. Today I cleaned the air filter, changed the tranny oil, lubed the chain and filled the gas tank. Ready to go tomorrow to a local Hare Scrambles! I ran it out of the garage and it will not start. Tried three different plugs. I did find that the rectifier was hanging by the wires. Must have lost the bolt last weekend. I re-attached it but all I get from kicking it is a couple of pops now and then. I even had my wife tow me down the street but it wouldn't fire at all. Any ideas?

I would check your connections. Make sure their are clean and everything is tight/seated. Check the spark to see the intensity. Sounds like a weak spark to me.

What's odd is that it ran perfect last weekend.

Do you shove a rag in the airbox while cleaning the filter?
    Did you take it out?

Bet tge float in the carb is stuck up. Take the 17mm nut off the bottom and see if fuel come out. If not tap on the bowl with a screwdriver handle. If that doesmt work pull the bowl

I agree - a carb issue - my money would go on... water in the carb after cleaning...
I'd drain the carb completely, clean the air intake/airbox again and run fresh fuel through the carb then put it back together and try again... Sorry if it's too late for the race tho...

For future ref' - i use one of those air intake covers every time i clean the bike. Just whip the air filter off and put the cover on and hay-presto problem solved.

    Hope that helps

I always use an intake cover when I wash the bike. It's getting plenty of fuel, the plug is wet. I might try unplugging the kill switch but the spark is intermittent so I'm thinking it's an electronic issue. About once every ten kicks it will pop.

I pulled the carb, the bowl was full of clean fuel, no water. I also checked the kill button with a DVM and it works fine. I've been wanting to try the CR ignition anyway, so I think I'll order one.

    Doug,

Check your ground connection at the coil. I think Jake had a similar problem that could be traced to a bad connection. I think the cdi and coil are one unit on the Ducati ign. but there still should be a ground to the frame.

Sorry, but the motion did not carry. The connections at both frame grounding points were clean with no sign of corrosion. It will still pop about every ten kicks. Just enough to keep you going...

Maybe Dan can test your CDI/Coil and stator for a fault. I would hate for you to have to pop for a CR ignition if you don't have too.

Yep, pulled it off. I actually was looking for an excuse to buy a CR ignition Now I have one! I will have the coil/CDI checked anyway.
