Does anyone know? It would be a great place to showcase the new 450. And with all the 250 riders moving up it may be a good time to snag one of the older riders to help with development - if the bike is competitive.
A lites bike with the TC250 is the best choice for top level AMA Nat/SX. The bike does work well for SX, with its size, chassis flex, and handling, been tested and is a viable option. Hope something can happen with this program.
plus factories dont pay for teams like the old days,,gotta carry a big wallet into the game from the get go. Kinda like the example Joe Gibbs Racing did when starting that team up recently. Then you can entice the factory into suppling machines and technology into your team. Money talks, bs walks. bring in Red Bull, Monster, Repsol, FIAT, Hewlett Packard etc etc as a primary team sponsor then you can get some factory backing. Then get the smaller guys to join the action as well. But its still a money pit. But it sure looks great in the stadium!!
I was wondering this as I watched Hondas and Suzukis and Yamahas and a couple KTMs at Washougal last Saturday. With the new bikes and BMW backing it is about time for Husky to make a showing, and yes it wont be cheap.
I personally would rather see the $$ put into R&D, Husky Hard parts expansion, and other broad areas that would benefit all recent model year husky owners. Just saying my "side of the fence" of supporting the very small number pro(s) to help sell bikes to new owners (small amount and not your target audience) or supporting the recent model year husky owners (huge amount and definiteley your target audience and best advertising through "referrals") When and if they do eve sponsor a full on race team......start in off road (GNCC, Enduros, and Desert) That is where Husky had there niche in the late 70's and 80's. Time to take back what is rightfully property of Husqvarna. If someone here hits Lotto....then by all means start a MX/SX team and watch your $$ fly away fast.....not cheap. Just my opinion
It may not be cheap but I have no idea how they can market a MX/SX bike for the US with no exposure or development at the top level. They will always be a novelty unless they can play with the big boys. The exposure off road is limited to what you see in the magazines and very limited shows like Racer TV - unlike SX/MX that is aired on CBS and Speed.
ugh....the biggest exposure to the U.S. market is SX/MX and if Husky/BMW really wants to sell to more than just the same old people who buy these bikes with the exception of the odd new owner, they need to have some sort of satellite team at the minimum. Usually increased market share is part of a company's business goals and...when you have live national coverage of SX/MX on a national tv station, both cable and otherwise or next day coverage and a rider does well on a Husky, that would make people think extra hard about these bikes.
Husqvarna is spending more racing time & Euros in Europe. In Europe a world championship means more to them then MX/SX in the US. Not saying the US market isn’t important, but They sell more bike internationally by winning a MX3 world championship. Supercross isn’t very popular in some of the smaller countries in eastern Europe, but motocross is! As it stands now, Husqvarna has (2) very fast riders in World Championship MX. MX3 Class -Matevz Irt, – 2nd in the World Championship points - Alex Salvini – 3th in the World Championship points Current MX3 Results http://www.motocrossmx1.com/reslists.aspx?ct=1&c=8 It would be fair say that once the US Market does better and the new 2011 start getting more publicity and Local & National racing time (i.e. Endurocross, 12/24hr at Glen Helen, USGP, Mammoth Mountain MX, and etc.,) possibly we will see more factory support teams (i.e. Zipty Racing, maybe a energy drink or a Racing Oil sponsored team) enter into the US MX/SX racing arena.
