So here's the thing, I don't actually need more power. It has plenty of power for me. I love the bike, but I've actually starting thinking about the power up kit and Leo Vince exhaust, because I'm wondering if it might make my bike ride and run even better. From what I've read, surging, lurching, popping, backfiring, etc. is pretty typical on stock 610's, especially at slow speeds and on decel given the lean emissions requirements. So would a power up kit and exhaust cure these things and make the bike run a little smoother? How much would gas mileage drop? I consistently get 60+ mpg, although I will admit that I probably ride like a granny compared to 99.9% of you. And would a Leo Vince with the quiet insert be much louder than the stock exhaust? I really don't want loud.
The power up kit made a night & day difference on my 630, with no other mods. Money well spent! Easier starts, smoother idle, EFI surging gone, deceleration popping gone. Do it! I put mine in a few weeks ago but have been out of town. So I can't speak for the impact on MPG.
Yes, it should run smoother. Whether that makes you twist the throttle more aggressively remains to be seen. Likely the mileage will go down some as you richen the mixture via powerup.
On my 610 the powerup put gas mileage in the 50-55 mpg range for brisk riding. Ive run 4 tanks through now and this is pretty consistent. Throttle response and overall power are noticeably improved, but it was certainly adequate when stock so this is just gravy on the potatoes. As far as the sound goes, having heard both pipes I dont think there is any noticeable difference in the db level, but the tone of the Leo is mellower. I think it is really only louder at WOT. Personally I find the sound of the stock pipe to be grating, which reminds me to wear my earplugs The Leo is on my short shopping list, but I keep spending all my play money on riding events so it may have to wait until it starts raining again.... but Bill is selling them for $325 right now so it is a tempting deal.
I've got about 700 miles on my '09 now, and I think it runs great. Haven't noticed any surging, and I've never stalled it. Yeah, it backfires occasionally but so does every other bike I own. I thought about the power up kit but assumed that I would have to put a Leo on it to matter. First TE I rode had a Leo and it was much louder than stock.
A LV muffler billed as "94db" is no louder than stock. The 3845C does it with no insert, only the spark arrestor.. I still can't believe it is so quiet without baffles. Perhaps the LV enduro muffler (#3552) would provide a little back-pressure and may be even quieter. Neither of those mufflers is going to help with the surging and general lean running. But if you are going to tweak the FI anyway, the LV muffler does look cool
Ibeat Software Has anyone tried the Ibeat software approach with the 610 or 630? I was at the dealer today ordering the power up kit, and they said they have the Ibeat SW if I was interested. Should I stick with the Power up kit first? Don't like to make to many changes all at once on the 630.
As the man said ... exactly the same with my 630 ... Am sure that´s how Husqvarna originally intended the bike to be. Had a trial ride on the 610 when it came out and was disappointed. You´ll be surprised how lively it is when uncorked.
My bike was always uncorked. I rode a stock 610 once and thought it was 'broken' I can't believe you guys are getting 55-60 Mpg though! I am getting 40 to 45 on my 08 610 TE. I ride like an @ssH*le though Honestly, I've tried to ride completely mellow and see absolute mileage. I've never been able to do it for a whole without a wheelie or 95 MPH jaunt on the freeway or??? some other hooligan activity 'just happening'
Sounds like pu might be the way to go. I remember reading where it basically puts it in "race" map. Will that cause strain and faster wear on the engine, or is running it stock (lean) more detrimental?
I'm just guessing here, but a lean engine runs hotter, to say the least. Cooling things off isn't a bad idea.
Yes, but... Um... I must admit I ride a unicycle A LOT:devil: If you can power up and not use it is a whole nuther thing
Night & day difference here as well on my 610. Leo plus the lamda was all I installed and it cured all the hard starting, slow speed drivability and on/off throttle hesitation issues.
I decided to do it. I ordered the Leo, O2 plug, and re-map plug from my dealer (BMC) this morning. I'll give a report once I install it. Getting ready for another trip later this month too, so I'm excited to see how it rides with the new setup.
That's pretty close to what I calculated after installing the power up kit. My mileage was 58MPG on the highway (rural secondary roads), and after the power up kit it decreased to 50MPG. All told, it runs much better when sacrificing the MPG. The stalling was the worse part.
I received my Leo Vince and power up parts from BMC and finished the installation this weekend. Bill recommended that I use the smaller diameter baffle, along with the spark arrestor for the quietest sound. Of course that meant cutting the about 1/2" of the tip off the end so they would work together. The guy that cut it for me didn't listen to the instructions at all and cut the entire tip off back to the flange. I was concerned it was going to be too loud, but it turned out to be just fine. So here is my take: --Power: Very noticeable increase in power. The bike pulls very hard through all the gears. In short, it rips! Not that I really needed more power, but it definitely increases the fun factor. --Sound: As mentioned, I installed the small diameter baffle (cut off), along with the spark arrestor. The result is a noise level very similar to stock, but with a much more pleasant tone. Cruising along at 55, it's very quiet. Get on the throttle and you can hear it, but it's not obnoxious at all. I am super pleased with the sound. --Low speed driveability: Ok, so this is the #1 reason why I wanted to do the power up and Leo exhaust. I was hoping that it would improve the smoothness of the throttle at low speed. For example, if I make a sharp u-turn in first gear, I have to use a lot of clutch to keep it rolling smoothly. If I don't, the bike wants to surge, and I actually think it could cause me to fall over. Another example: when starting to accelerate in second gear and then quickly backing off the throttle, the bike does not decelerate smoothly. It feels lurchy, for lack of a better word. So anyway, I had hoped the power up would cure these low speed drivability issues (which I've read are typical for this bike). Well unfortunately I cannot notice any difference at all in this regard since installing the power up and new muffler. Note that I do also have an iridium spark plug installed. --Asthetics: I always liked the look of the stock exhaust. The only thing I didn't like was how close it was to the rear turn signal. But I do think that the Leo Vince looks much better and improves the overall appearance of the bike. So my final take is that I'm happy with the new setup. The bike is super fun to ride, the sound is improved (in my opinion), and it looks better. I do wish it would have helped with low speed drivability, but I will just continue to use the clutch to smooth things out when I feel it's necessary. I'm not a real technical genius, so I hope my comments make sense, and I hope it may be useful to others thinking about this setup.
Looks good! All that remains is to remove that silly rattletrap of a heat shield :smirk: If it is any consolation, I have not been able to get rid of that low-rpm lurch either. I am beginning to think it is a trait of the engine, it seems to happen regardless of fuel system or settings. Hold the throttle exactly still at 3000 rpm and power will stutter on-off-on-off whipping the hell out of your chain. Pull the clutch and downshift and it's fine. Bike's definitely more of a ripper than a cruiser.
