The one I have is the WP 5018 Trax, http://www.ktm-parts.com/5018TRAX-p-KTMHESF.html http://www.ridepgsuspension.com/wp-trax-shock/ View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=r4_rgykV1pc View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xe_C4E0Zxck Just put this onto my 2014 TE300. "A" kit baby!! I'll snap a few shots later, mine is the one with the parallel comp adjusters not the stepped type
more than just bling. and no cafe crew, it was not $2100. Its used from a Nat level pro off roader, got a great deal 2 unit package deal. Both going on Huskys. It may need a good service. Is it wrong to put some orange anodized parts on my Husky?
Yes it is wrong, you need to anodize it blue...good thing you got a great deal Need to say this, even if you spent 10k on your suspension you don't need to justify anything to us. We're just jealous
"Is it wrong to put some orange anodized parts on my Husky?" Yeah, you might as well just give it to me
Gee Robert, You got some well deserved respect here...I did a post a while back about the inner workings and features of the WP 5018 Trax shock shown on a picture of Mike Browns bike that was started by "ray_ray". I mentioned I ran the same set up on my BMW G450Xs PDS chassis and took nothing but flak for it. Stupid idiotic comments on how it probably weighs too much being as long as it is center to center. As if it weighed more than the extra partially unsprung weight of all the linkage hanging on the swingarm on most other bikes running a linkage. Or why would someone want a shock that cost more to service or require service more often? YAA RIGHT! My Ohlins unit sits on a shelf. Its not exactly junk and it had been revalved by "Dicks Racing Services" and their it will stay. I paid $640.00 for mine and it was like brand new (200 miles). it had a 3/8" scuff on the black anodizing on the rear of the lower mounting eyelet from the mud guard. Oh My God! That's a shame isn't it? I know many G450X riders who have sourced these shocks from all over the world. They are that good and as rare as rocking horse shit for the G450X. Especially since there are teams and companies still building Rallye bikes with the base G450X all over the world. On mine I changed to a heavier rate Slavins progressive wound spring that was like 1/4" longer to get the adjuster back up towards the top end of the shock body. It is an absolute piece of art. It makes other stock cast bodied shocks look like a piece of garbage. The Speedbrain and many factory teams all run these shocks. There is a reason why. Get it set up and dialed and you will know why too but I'm sure you do already. You did right Robert, These shocks are the best... Period. Whether it needs service or not. Anyone who thinks differently doesn't know what the hell they are missing and some of the nay-sayers probably wouldn't know the damned difference anyway. Yes, you can you say jealous? Oh yes, you sure can! The 5018 Trax, well, It comes with the grin of "Prestige" of not having a cookie cutter part hanging off the shock mounts like everybody else. Who gives a damn what color the anodizing is? Are you kidding me? There's more to this than just bling but that's good too.
Sorry I'm a bling guy lol. If i were to build my dream TC250 it would have the red zokes, a fox shock, red graphics, xc trans and a custom built aluminum tank (think 70's). Just turned a 7k bike into about 13k pretty much built a beta but if i built one of them i would want staright ohlins like a Boano race bike . I have a hard time getting it because it's not realistic to me but more power to you guys that get what you want The only real mod ive done isthe red hose kit, go out in the garage just to stare at the bike now lol. Thanks Rob
Nothing wrong with the 48mm Red Zokes that's for sure. My next bike will probably be a Beta 480 RR race version. I've been looking at the BYOB program. I will go for the Fox Podium shock and Stillwell valved Red Zokes also among other options from the get go. You only live once right? My G450 had 45mm Zokes on it to begin with and I had one of the 2 complete sets I had sent off and had them revalved as well by the same place (Dicks racing) as the rear shock. They still sucked. I eventually replaced the entire front end, 20mm trees, wheel and all from a 10' KTM 450 to swap to the WP 4860 Open Chamber forks. Had them done by "Racetech" for my weight, rocky desert riding with all the bells and whistles, their gold valves etc. They work great. No comparison to the 45mm Zoke boingers I removed and I had 2 different sets of. Dumped them on ebay for a 2 to 3 hundred a set. Adios!
Without weighing it, it feels lighter than the OEM WP shock in my calibrated arms its installed, I was told I might need to do some subframe trimming, neither the FE350S or my TE300 needed any mod work they both went right on. And the un modded no trax assy shock on the FE350S feels really good in the garage, on my fully trax unit it has a clunky noise coming from the reservior may just need a fresh nitrogen charge, but no worries for the price a service is no issue and even a part or 2 is no issue. Oh yea both of them came with X-Trig spring preload adjusters, on the 350 it come close to the pipe and only a wrench can be used, on mine a socket with extension works perfectly...man that thing is such a welcome bonus item http://www.ridepgsuspension.com/wp-xtrig-shock-adjuster/
Robert, From my understanding. If you hold the front Brake and push hard on the front end thereby topping out the WP Trax shock it should click and make a noise which is an indication the Trax unit itself is functioning and is working. Check that out.
BT, understood, but the clunk is coming from the piston/reservoir portion of the shock, I'm thinking a fresh Ni charge for some gas preload on the piston may be the answer, if not we can disassemble and do a service, no worries. I left a message to the former owner, who was a little busy with round 1 WORCS (2015 #1 plate debut, so cats out of the bag now). The guy is also a top tier mech. so I hope to get a little direction from him.
talked with Gary (follow up) that clunk is normal for this shock, he said he called WP right away when he felt and heard it. I rode the shock on super good rocky gnarley eastern style single track. spring is way sacked for me. 115+ race sag with 30mm static, the thing oversteered like crazy and going up hills...i mean steeeep hairball climb for one she just kept wheelying and wanting to piroette at every switchback......so I grabbed my 6.1 spring from my oem shock----nogo its a totally different spring TRAX spring has 2 IDs bottom is 60mm and top is 66mm spring length for the 5.4kg/mm spring that was on it is 245mm. the spring for my OEM WP shock is 6.1 Kg/mm 265mm length bottom id 63mm top id is 63mm. anyway riding it that clunk is not there at all, and despite being sacked out I could feel the trax component of the shock working in certain ugly rocky sections. I will check with ZipTy and if Ty does not have these dim springs I will contact WP factory services. Additional I got it I had a Slavens 6.0 White spring 256mm that was hogged/ground out a little at the ends, a metal adapter ring fit on bottom perfectly and the X-Trig plastic collar fit into the top nicely both spun snug but freely in the spring I ran the xtrig in to get 12mm of spring preload so all I can do now is back off the preload, because 12mm is pushing the limit of proper spring preload, less is fine more is nogo. For every full turn of the X-Trig collar it equals 1mm, I have a sharpie dot on the collar to count my MM. I should get my happy sag numbers now. Funny WP factory services lists the 250/300 (XC KTMS and TE Huskys) to 30mm static with 110 race sag. That number will not work for me, it will be somewhere in 25-35 static for 100 race sag I hope for 35/100, my last setting was 29/100
Good to hear you are getting it sorted out with the WP Trax Unit. I told you the "Click" or in your words "Clunk" was normal. I never hear mine riding either. Lots of things I don't hear with my helmet on, I never hear my house alarm beeping to tell me to deactivate it either when I still have my helmet on. Like after I get back home from a dirt bike ride. My Olde English Bulldogge "Harley" thinks I'm an idiot probably every time I go out the door to ride my dirtbikes. That's because when I get back home again I'll probably set the alarm off while getting my gear off. As I've done that a few times before. He's beginning to associate the 2 together. The alarm speakers in my attic are fricken loud. It's no wonder he doesn't like my motorcycles. LOL!
Now you can say your rear will hook up like bike with CTS! It's a big confidence booster passing pumpkins on nasty hills.
