    I have a wr 300 2008 and thought to change it for a TE 250 2010.
Can someone help me with this decision. I am 38 years and 180 pounds.
    Thanks

Have you ridden a 4T lately? The TE would be a good choice if you are considering plating your bike. Maybe even look at the TE310.
If you are not putting a plate on it maybe consider a TXC250 more of a dirt orientated ride.
    Hope that helps.

No, have not used a 4T lately.
I live out US and we dont need plate for our bikes. I read about the TE 250 but never tried one. I like the 2T, but I think probably de EFI and weight of the 250 will be a good choice.
    Thanks for your opinion

    Luis,

If you try a new 2010 TE 250 for spin if will be fast , light and suspension great out of the box.. As the bike breaks in it gets faster and faster..

Yes, but the TE won't have the same power as your WR.

I'v heard complaints from that tall first gear on the te250 in tight woods riding.

No complaints. Gearing is spot on for me.
Luis, we are about same age and weight (77kg). Since you have no 4t experience, I'd say try any 250f you can find around, and see if you like 4t as a concept. If you do, than the 2010 TE is probably the best you can get in the 250f category (I rode then all, didn't read the magazines), and geometry wise would be close to your current bike.
The 310 is also a great bike which I'd consider if moving to 4t.
    Good luck.

As far as a tall 1st gear ... The trail you are on would have a lot to do with that ...

The 4t are easy to ride, fast or slow , and will require more $ when the engine goes away than a 2t ... Plus you need to do values ADJ on the 4t that the 2t does not require ... Most of the other stuff on the bikes is the same .... The 4t is gonna weight a little more also ...

No mixing oil and gas is a plus on the 4t if you are moving around in the third world ... Lots of places where I'm at now where there are no gas stations & I must purchase it from a local selling it from his home ... No sure if you can pick up oil along UR route but it must considered ...

These new 4t are like really fast reving 4ts of 20+ years ago .... But alot lighter and with good suspensions ... If you can, you should ride one before buying one ...

I got a TXC250 for riding around the Philippines ... A TE is dirt bike first, with a little street bike tossed in ....

TC250 or TXC250. The TE is a dual sport. I don't get the riders who buy these and want to go 100% off road or even race them. There's a ton of stuff to remove and modify to get them race ready. The other 2 are sold for just that purpose.

    Thats a good point.
You think WR 300 is a better option?

I find the wr250/300 a little old in design. Not to say it's not a great bike. I went with the TC250(mx version). If you don't mind not having the E-start, it works great off road. Light, lots of power and no dual sport stuff. Pure race machine.

While this certainly is not a bad place for the thread, I'll move it over to the Main forum because some of the 2st people may not visit the 4st forum very much.

Good luck on your quest!

very easy to explain my situation, the type of racing I do requires a plate and working lights, and its all tight off road trails,NO MX bike could ever pass tech let alone ride the stuff we ride, without dropping some serious coin on making it tech legal. yes it has stuff to take off on the TE,but id rather take it off and be able to put it back on if needed. IMHO the TE has everything already installed and the 2010 version is the SAME as the TXC,except it has lights! so in short,if I got a TXC it would cost extra for lights and respringing/revalving the MX suspension on them, thats if you can get a plate for it this year. the TC while a great MX bike, would need to have working lights(may require a rewound stator?)and a quiet exhaust and your limited on tire choice with the 19" hoop, and you probably cant get a plate around here for a TC.
without a button I wouldnt buy a new four stroke, just not worth it stalling anywhere and not being able to hit the button while rolling and go. if you were just trailriding go with what works for you.
if your competing and it requires a plate and registration,go with the TE

Races that require full street legal plates and lights are less and less frequent. US national enduros don't even require lights anymore. All you need is a spark arrester. The can. national enduros can be done with bicycle lights and an offroad plate. I think the western rounds don't even require any. All the H/S racing scene is lights ''free'' also. 10lbs less stuff in tight single track is a plus IMO.

I rather have a rekluse than a starter. But that's just me ;)

I see a lot of TE owners trailer there bikes and race the same stuff I do with a TC. They have all kinds of setup issues. Most end up not happy with there rides or trade back to the wr's...that are not street legal btw.

we dont have the land anywhere around to have a closed course enduro, both the ECEA and NETRA series I race,so unless i want to run a hare scramble or moto,We need the plates,ya a recluse is nice, but like you said the TE already has the button stock, you had to buy the rekluse, bicycle lights and spark arrestor, also stock on the TE,glenn kearney can race whatever he wants and hes running a FI TE250 and doing very well on it,so im positive i cant ride it to its potential!
