Greetings folks. Getting me some coffee and Husky chat for the day. Was hoping if you guys can help me ID if this 2001 125 zipper is a WR or WRE model. Aside from the headlight being an obvious discrepancy (its from a Honda XR), what else should I be looking for? Apologies for the super noob question.

:D I have the wre! Ok, first off, your carb, is it a 28 milimetre or a 35/36 size? On the side it should say the numbers so you can tell. Unless it's a wre and someone put a bigger carb on it but let's not think about that for a moment. Underneath the seat, lift it off, is there a white tank with a black lid, full of two stroke oil or even empty? The wre has this as it has what's called an auto lube pump, to pump the two stroke into the carb and engine, the wr does not as it is run with two stroke and petrol mixed together in the tank. Actually I can't think of anything else to check, I swear there are more differences! My mind has gone blank now. I hope that helps you diagnose your bike's model variation!

Really appreciate the reply gazmcfaza! :) The carb numbers and letters indicate its a PHBH 28. Also, I've been wondering about that tank under the seat! Haha. I knew it was for 2T but the previous owner told me to premix. No mention whatsoever about the tank. I also saw the tank's tube is already cut so I guess he's been premixing already. Would you recommend me getting the lube pump to work again or just continue the premix ritual? The previous owner also avidly suggested my ratio to be 33ml per liter of petrol. So far the bike's been running fine and no bogging. The only thing that really bothers me is the idle not working since the slide's idle groove is not flat.

But man, can this bike rip! Took it out today for a quick run on a beautiful day.

Thats 30:1 i ran 50:1 no sweat but i would keep premixing unless you want to strip down the lube system to see why it was disconnected.

Auto lubed work great untill you forget to top up oil or the plastic gear strips.
My theory is premix is safer as i know ive put oil in.
    Nice ride 125's nimble

Thanks juicypips! Will definitely take note of that. Totally agree on just continuing the premix.

its a wre then, welcome to the family :D the wr's and cr's have a bigger carb set up as standard as the wre is more of a dual sport than anything else. I would suggest you ignore the tank or consider losing it completely, save a teeny bit of weight :D I did run mine with the auto lube pump but it did break at 50 mph up a hill, the back wheel locked up and nearly threw me off. There was a cost for a new one not including the new top end and gaskets. The new pump has been fine for 5000 miles now but if it goes again I'll be running premix too. The disadvantage being if you ride on the road a lot, you'll need to measure out an exact amount of oil with the petrol you put in, and considering I barely make 60 miles before a re fill it would get annoying after a while. Does your bike have a standard exhaust? As if you put on a dep, arrow or think it's spelt 'ginelli?] and then adjust the carb jets to compensate you'll gain a bit more power. Don't rejet and you'll gain a LOT MORE POWER for about 5 miles. Then you will have a broken piston. I had mine on a dyno at the garage when it was rebuilt and it was putting out 23 bhp at the rear wheel so likely 25 at the flywheel. But yeah, great bikes, and use premix at 30 to one if you wish [I would rather spend the extra on the oil] or a less rich mix if you like, just see what it likes to run with 15022013824.jpg

60 miles from a tank?!? how smalls the tank?
if you have a smart phone (most people do) you can download the premix ratio app or 2 stroke calculator for exact measurments.
i usually stick 100ml in for every 5L and i rarly top up a full tank, if i do just stick abit more in, not an exact science unless your racing.

my tank is 10 litres including reserve, not sure if my speedos dead accurate as I checked it against gps and it was about 5 mph out so the mileage is probably out too, I get about 35 mpg average, up to 40 on faster roads, but lately I've been pushing it really really hard around town 1st and 2nd gear so after about 60miles I fuel up. I used to have a cagiva w8 that ran on premix with the mito engine, I mixed that at 30 to one and it was fine [until the ancient bottom end bearing seized so I scrapped the thing]. When my bike was standard exhaust and jetting it would do about 80 miles per tank but obviously less power

Its a shame there isnt a cheap option to the lectron in uk, as that was the single biggest improvement on mpg ive known, yup thrashing a 125 is the only way i know how to ride one!
Well gazmcfaza you junk this motor i will give you scrap value for it

you mean if I ever run it so hard it becomes uneconomical to repair it? Never!!! she's my baby :D If I ever had to declare it sorn id keep it as an antique in my garage for my kid and say to him look son, that powered my about for years when I was a nipper :D then i'd probably just buy a newer drz

Thanks for the insights guy! Super appreciate it. I'm running the stock Husky silencer and pipe - Well, for now. I think I'm going 50:1 just to be on the safe side. Next plan is to go supermoto since its going to be a daily driven bike for me.

Been wondering about the fuel mileage of the WRE. You guys are brilliant! Now I've a general idea of how far I can go before ending up stranded on the road. LOL

50:1 is less oil than 30:1 remember its 50 parts gas to 1 part oil
    being safe is 30:1:thumbsup:

Hey I was going to say that! Stop beating me :{ yeah the more oil the better so long as it doesn't bog down obviously. Another thing with these bikes, don't start it and ride it straight away, people will tell you that's how you warm a 2 stroke up but I've always started mine for 5 mins, blipped the throttle occasionally then ridden slowly for another few minutes before opening the engine up, plus the mechanic I go to said ''the way to kill a 2 stroke is to not get it warm first''. To get to the air filter which will also help performance and engine power if you keep it clean or replace it, just take off the seat and undo the left hand side panel bolt, you'll see it inside underneath that oil tank, untwist the bolt in the middle of the filter and the thing will come right out

Thanks guys. Most appreciated :) Check on the warmup first. I tend to get overexcited and start going braaaaap! as soon as I see a clear road. LMAO
