So I recently bought an '09 wr125 that needed some work. I just got the bottom end back after having the crank rebuilt and new main bearings installed.

It rotates freely in the normal direction but when I try to rotate it backwards, it moves freely for a short distance and then seems to "catch" on something.

I'm assuming this is not normal? Any ideas on what it could be?

Did they true the case halfs,,normally when you bolt 2 halfs togather you have a slight varience or it could be just a tight new bearing issue... Drop 2-ST oil in the 2 small holes in the case where the cylinder bolts down,,that will lube your new main bearings, drop a small amount at the rod bearing,,lube all these bearings and see if the crank turns free in the other direction...

yep they trued it up and it's not crooked in the cases.

I pulled the clutch cover and it was the kicker gear catching and engaging when the crank was rotated in reverse. i pulled it out and re-installed it and it's okay now.

Unfortunately the cover gasket tore :(
