I mentioned this in the gearing thread but since it seems like a bigger issue, ill start a thread. So i have a 2014 wr300 with about 40 hours on it. I just put a lectron carb on the bike (wich is not jetted perfectly yet). Well my gearing is 15-48 and i can squeeze 50mph out of it and that is screaming. I dont know what would cause this....

What is it doing at 50? Reving out (gearing) or falling on its face (carb)? Play with the external powerjet on the carb. Might be lean, might be rich. Super simple to test. How does your plug look when you to a top end chop? Need more info. The Lectron should not limit top end in fact more report a good bit more top. If it does it simply needs tuned which is very easy.

It really seems like it's reving out. I get on it and it screams. the power jet is at 1 1/2 turns out. The plug is a dark brown color and wet. The low end feels strong just a little choppy when crusin at 1/4 throttle. But it spooges alot! Could my main issue have anything to do with my power valve?

the plug reading indicates rich, these usually read lean when about right. try playing with the PJ screw next ride. I find 3/4-1 turn out to be the sweet spot a lot of time but all bikes are different so dont assume thats where it should be. What oil you run and at what mixture?

I'm running 40:1 with klotz super techniplate. I'll mess with the power jet next time. And with my metering rod I went a quarter turn richer and it felt like it woke up the low end. But my idle screw is only 3/4 of a turn out. Should I not worry about my idle screw is and just ride it if f its running good ?

Screaming at 50 mph, I would suspect the clutch. Your clutch can't handle the awesomeness of the Lectron.

Did it do this prior to the Lectron going on? And like Eaglefreek said, maybe there is an issue with the clutch? Is your cable adjusted properly and you have the correct amount of play? AND...I hate to state the obvious, but you never can tell....are you sure your gears were engaged all the way up through 5th? Sometimes there is a bolt that can come loose cause the gears to goof up a little. Maybe you think you are in 5th, when actually you are in say, 3rd. You will still be able to move the shift lever, but won't be able to engage the gears, if that sounds right.

just thinking out loud. But that happened to me a few times out in the dez. I was tapped out wondering "what happened to my top end?" and realized my gears were actually not engaging past 3rd.

I installed the lectron even before taking the bike for an actual ride so that is still possible. The clutch is adjusted correctly and releasing all the way ( I'm in my garage now looking at it). It does shift through all of the gears I would pay attention when riding to make sure it hits fifth. And I did check thay bolt that comes loose a month ago before I took the bike out for its first ride, I didn't want to have any issues. this is really blowin my mind now. And for gear oil I'm using valvoline motorcycle 10-4 for wet clutch. It does say 4 stroke on it but I've been using this in my 2 stroke tran's on past bike for years...

And when I drained out the oil last month when I bought the bike it had what appeared to be trans fluid in the case.

I highly doubt it is your clutch or trans. These have short transmissions so I'm not sure what your expecting top speed wise. You say it revs out so the carb tuning is only going to gain you a little bit. Might be simply it needs geared taller if you want top speed. These bikes are not fast on top as the trans is a pretty tight ratio trans. My 02 CR250 husky (similar bike) with woods gearing for climbing only does about 35-40 on top comfortably.

I'm not looking for anything crazy with the top end that's why I went with the 15t front sproket I just ride the bike on the road to connect trails but I would like to see 50 mph out of it. what really threw me off was that I was reading guys hitting 70+ on stok gearing and it really made me start to think. It seems like I my jetting is good (from looking at the plug). So I think I just need to ride the damn thing and enjoy it hahah

50mph is trialsbike territory so an enduro with 15- 48shouldhit at least competition speeds hell 50 in the woods fair going but over the feilds and fire tracks is not good.
Can you put smaller rear sprocket on?
