250-500cc WR300 Motard - Some general queries?

I know there has been plenty of chat about this on here before. I think I've read just about every thread there is to find! But I haven't found many recent posts from people who have done this lately. So... I have my own set of questions if you can bare with me!

1. Are there any 2T hub WR wheel sets now available, or is there a set designed for another bike which fits up the husky and it's tricky 150mm rear hub? I have been quoted on a set of Warp 9 made up to suit and price seemed reasonable - but just seeing if there is another option.
2. What kind of gearing do people run on the street? I would like to gear it for 150/160kmh top speed - with a comfortable cruising speed of 110kmh without peaking the motor in powerband or damaging the motor.

My expected ride would be a range of approx 100km per day, once or twice a week (my daily commute to work occasionally). Is this a realistic goal? (The bike runs a lectron carb if it helps with this).

There is also the thought - am I expecting too much from the 2T 300 with my riding goals? Should I avoid attempting to do this with this bike? I would appreciate any honest opinions here - I would rather find somewhere else to spend the $$$ on, which isn't a difficult task, than risk damaging the motor!

I would not recommend it for high speed commuting. Two bangers dont like constant high speed revs and it will also be very uncomfortable.

Cheers duggoey - appreciate your opinion. I've been talking it over with my partner and a few others and I think the general consensus is the same as yours. I've decided to walk away from the motard idea and put that budget towards getting some decent off-road camping gear, and focusing my efforts on doing some competitive enduro events! Basically something the bike is built for I guess!

even with my modded xr650r, riding on expressway was very tiring. 20 mi on the xr felt like 60 mi on a sv650.

1) There are hubs available for this bike (eg. Talon)
2) 160 kmph is almost impossible. I have 14-42 gearing and I reach a 140-145kmph. But it does cruise very well around 100kmph with this gearing.
3) Convert it, most fun supermoto I've ever had. Still does wheelies in 4th at 95kmph with no clutch. And the low weight is just fantastic. It's fast!

I would not ride mine around the block.

The transmission is too tight on the WRs for street duty and the vibration will kill you.

You have to mix gas.

There are way better Sumo bikes than a WR

Transmission is short but not impossible. I have this bike now for 4 years and it still makes me smile and sweat like a pig after a ride. It's not the best, but it is the most fun I've ever had.

Mix gas is not a problem...1:40 oil to fuel ratio, I pour in 200ml for 8L of fuel. I'm very experienced with guessing how much fuel i have left
But the advantage of where I live is that there is a gaspump at almost every corner of the street. Just don't forget to bring oil.

Vibrations are indeed present alot...

I reckon itd be awesome fun to hammer round on the road. if youre fair dinkum timmy try source a 6 speed box for it, gear it down, slap on the slicks & go for it I say!

My 06 SM610 is a great bike for what you are wanting to use it for. One of the few bikes I have kept since I bought it new, coming up on 9 years this December. Plenty of those from 06-11 around and you can get them at a good bargain. I added a Seat Concepts seat to mine and ride it for 300 mile rides and it is comfortable and that motor will run all day at highway speeds without too much discomfort. But as others have said, it would be a hoot to hammer my 300 around with street tires!

I think you have made up your mind but id like to clarify what I meant.

For use around the street and for city low speed commuting it would be great fun as a SM. Regular trips on the highway at speeds above 90-100 kph would be very uncomfortable, it could potentially wear the bike out very quickly too. It will use butloads of fuel at powerband speeds and will vibrate more than what I would like, vibration isnt the whole story, wind buffeting and general handling characteristics are very poor at long highway stretches.

The high speed of 150kmh might be feasible but that would be maximum peak speed at max revs

Appreciate all the opinions and input - I think it is probably just going to end up being an unrealistic expectation for the bike, and I'd hate to do damage to it just for a bit of fun on the street!
The 6spd transmission would be great, but a lot of work for the amount of riding I'd do!

Timmy, every time I think of Mt Buffalo I think of Motard! A squirt up the windy Mt Buffalo rd to the Chalet on a motard would be a blast. Great on the Beemer but would be better on a motard. A WR300 would suit just fine! Years ago I had a 525, I never got around to purchasing the wheels but was constantly on my mind.
