Its going into the dealer on Thursday for warranty repair. I am going to support the new fender with the rear rack and a bolt/sleeve combo and order a tail tidy kit just in case the new fender breaks too. im just saying that after the 9500 i put into the bike and the full warranty the rear fender should have lasted longer than 261 miles. the worst bump i hit was some slight washboard......oh well

Note that the factory rear rack has broken for some as well, albeit with something on it.

So, has this happened to anyone without the XOS licence plate bracket? Down here in Aus the bikes just come with the plate screwed straight onto the fender. Well at least mine did.

+1 for me on broken fender. The bike has been in the dealers shop since 6 July awaiting parts. All done through warranty.

The mechanic showed me a fix performed on one that they already fixed. When mine gets fixed I can post a pic, but what he did was run a strut from the exhaust bracket to the turn signal mount on the fender one on each side it felt much more ridged than before. I don't think it is a complete solution I was thinking of adding BRmoto rack also.

Well i took the bike to the dealer today, and after seeing that i did not dump it they took pics of the cracks and told me they would call when a new fender was delivered. All Free warranty repairs. I then asked them if i could fix it myself while i wait for the new fender, They said go for it man! So i brought it home epoxied the fender break and made a new lighter plate holder from aluminum/Plexiglas laminate. I then made a support for the fender from a 1/4x20 6 inch zinc stove screw, 2 metal washers, and 3 rubber washers then a lock nut to hold it all on there. the fender is rock steady now. ill test it tomorrow offroad the let you all know how it holds up!

well i had to re do the epoxy. but the support saved me. got the bike back together now just gonna try to keep it on-road till i get a new fender. or fab up a tail tidy that i know will fit.

You can do what you want, but the TR650 rear fender, and *eventually* the TR650 OEM top rack seems destined to fail at some point. Personal opinion only.

That whole tail section needs to be removed and the plate moved up close to the tail light. They put that same silly thing on the 511's which was removed after 5 minutes on the trail.

i know these are the 2 "weakest" points of the bike that need to be attended to. I may have to blueprint out a new tail tidy and rack myself. I wish i had a machine shop so i could Fab my Brains out on this bike and perhaps start a mass production.....but for now just fixing my bike will be the priority.....

I might have to start looking around for a machine shop that can do my custom work. but that may cost more than just buying a tail tidy and modding it to fit right.

The only reliable way to fix both the rear fender and the top rack that I know of is BRMoto's solution. I see no reason to re-invent things.

i would like to have the stock rack re-made in 6061 aluminium. since i never really use the rack tho i may just lose it if i can find a tail tidy.

I priced that out, it was obscenely expensive for that much billet.

I don't use the rack much either, and as such, i'm sure that it'll withstand whatever i do to it. I have a strada, and don't ride off road, so i'm not particularly concerned about it. I do see the rear fender flexing even just riding on the road. not sure if it's enough to break it though.

I like the look of the tail tidy, but for the price they're asking, you shouldn't have to mod it at all. it should just fit.

Not quite sure how you guys are breaking the rear fender and racks....I drive my bike pretty hard (It runs better when riddin hard...I know weird). Anyway ive bottomed the suspension out multiple times taking a few jumps (4-5 feet off the ground), on dirt roads, or light atv trails im usually bouncing everywhere, kinda like ski moguals. ive got 3000km on the bike now and the fender is fine.

Even the rear rack has taken a fair mount of abuse. I trailered the bike from Nova Scotia to my parents house in Newfoundland and back (3200km). Cargo strapped the front forks to the trailer like you would usually transport a bike but I didn't want the rear end of the bike jumping off the trailer as the Hwy can get rough in sections or if a 1000lb moose jumped out in front of my suv (bad day). So I took 2 cargo straps looped them around the rear rack on each side and tightened them down to the trailer...compressing the rear shock about 3-4 inches. bike didn't move an inch and the rear rack held up to the abuse.
