  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

08-10 models, Same hydro clutch as KTM?

millenium7

Husqvarna
AA Class
Clutch has started to give out, not the discs but the hydraulic system. Won't disengage the clutch entirely, it rapidly got worse on 1 ride to the point where it was now very difficult to change gear, and could not sit at a standstill. So there'll be a leak somewhere. Is it the same as the KTM magura clutch? Same 'magura blood' oil? same seals etc?

Any prop tips on how to find the leak if its not obvious? I can't really spot any fluid

P.S. when do I get to post without having to wait days for a moderator to approve?

Husky uses brembo components and KTM uses Magura.. there could be a difference, not really sure to tell you if they exactly fit on each other or not, but I dont think so.

A possible cause, is the clutch master cylinder is not making enough pump pressure, but I dont know if there is a test to confirm this is the cause..

My 630 has a Magura clutch master cylinder and a Brembo brake master cylinder.

The clutch master cylinder rebuild kit for the 630 has this part number:

M0720555, HYMEC PISTON KIT, 9.5MM

Can't find fluid leaking? Not sure if these devices can loose pressure without leaking ... Maybe just go through the bleeding process without introducing air into the system ...And again, I'd use whatever fluid is listed on the cap of the master cylinder.

Maybe the MODS will pick up these posting and allow your posts to be displayed on the fly ...

99% positive your slave cylinder and piston have a groove or two worn in them. Over time a groove or two will show up and damage the seal of the piston. Pretty common issue I have run into on these bikes. They actually leak hydraulic fluid into the engine oil through the slave piston seal.

Im not sure where to find a replacement slave cylinder but you might be able to get away with just replacing the piston. Also need to buy a reverse
bleeder tool, these clutch hydraulic systems need to be bleed from the bottom up. Use magura blood or something similar

Ride might have a point as the Oring on that slave cylinder would go out on that model bike ... UptiteHusky used to sell a beefed up oring but not sure if he still sells them or not ... I worn a couple out but never hurt the hardware ...

Magura master cylinders were equipped on KTM's. You can purchase a non oem master and put your top on it with the decompressor. I think there's three sizes; 8.5, 9.5, and 10.5 i believe. Zip Ty racing makes a replacement slave cylinder. 7602 racing has the piston along with the x ring(o ring). There is a rebuild kit available for the master cylinder as long as the housing doesn't having any scoring on the inside where the piston slides upon. You can back bleed the system with a syringe and a piece of 1/4" tubing. Use another syringe to remove the fluid from the master when back bleeding. Magura blood, motorex fluid 75, sewing machine oil to fill it. Mineral oil is used in the magura and brake fluid is used in the brembos.

Do a search on the Zip Ty slave cylinder, or the 7602 slave piston and you should come up with more info.

Well I found the cause of the leak. I looked very carefully externally before pulling off the slave cover, couldn't find any oil on the engine casing. So pulled the cover off, the first alarming sign is lots of excess sealant coming off with the bolts. Removed the slave cylinder and noticed that it was missing a small chunk of the casing. Removed the circlip, pumped the lever and removed the piston. Lots of dark honey coloured fluid behind it, and the distinctive smell of Motul 5100. So definitely an exchange of engine oil going on. Closely inspected the slave cylinder casing and found that in addition the missing chunk there's a very small crack that looks like it extends just to where the o-ring would be, so the clutch would seal until the lever is pulled in all the way, extending the o-ring to the crack and starting to dump fluid. Other than that the piston looks good as does the o-ring. However i'll need a new clutch slave cylinder and will get 2 new o-rings as well

BTW it does say magura on the slave cylinder... but I held it against my KTM's one and the bolt distances are slightly different, bummer. Cause there's plenty of KTM parts around
I'll see if the bike shop can order one in tomorrow, however if the price is ludicrous or stock is problematic where should I order it from? Must be viable to ship to Australia

Another question while i'm at it. Do these models share sprockets with any other bikes? I have a bunch of KTM front sprockets that looked very similar, but the spline pattern is different. It's currently got 16/47 on it  I want a 13 and 14

P.S. MODS: When can I start posting without having to wait for you guys to approve my posts??????????

Check out Zipty racing. They have a billet slave cylinder that is a big improvement over stock. Cheaper too I think.

Send a PM to one of the mods. Spammers were ruining lots of behind the scenes stuff recently so that's why the approval period.

Who are the mods? Who do I contact?

This can't be a viable answer, it's such a massive pain in the ass having to wait for a mod to approve simple posts. In all honesty it's made me think poorly of the forum in general

I'm in the same boat. Rode my new (to me) 2010 510SMR literally 8 miles and the clutch went out. Fluid leaking all over the lever and down the cable. No clutch action, clutch wouldn't disengage, starter would roll the bike with the clutch lever fully pulled. I ended up putting AutoZone fluid in because I could walk to it from where the bike died and I had to get back to work ASAP.

I'll purge the system and replace with Mineral Oil this weekend, but is this the correct part for the kit:
