  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

09 SMR Large play front sprocket ?

Juvkam78

Husqvarna
AA Class
Did some maintenance on the bike to day, and with the chain of i notised that there was a great bit of play betveen the shaft and front sprocket.. I guess 2-3mm free play, cant see anything on the shaft so i hope it is just the sprocket (original with 5500 km on it) who is worn a bit, will change chain and spockets very soon, can i use treadlock on the spline to "calm" the sprocket down ?

Juvkam

Juvkam, I found I had what I thought was excessive rotational play on the OE front sprocket, with only 800 miles on the bike. I bought a replacement item from Talon and it's a much snugger fit. Thought the same as you, don't want any slop causing wear to the drive shaft.

I've seen this a few times over at George's shop (Uptite). Definitely replaces them. Just some poor fitting parts

Ok, thanks.. I now have new supelite sprockets and a new Iris O-ring chain on its way
And i just got my BRP chain guide, so my drive should be fine in a little wile ;)

Lubing the sprocket and splines helps. Reason if run dry it will rust then the rust gets worn away and rusts again this process errodes the sprocket and shaft making it looser and wearing faster.

Yes, sound advice.

Re the good point above re no spinning up of tyre on dirt v tarmac grip with SM's - do you know if the 09 SMR's have any cush in the clutch assembly? It's been posted here but don't think a reply came in. Coming from street sports bikes with cush drives, have always wondered this on the pretty powerful SM's.
