  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

09 TXC stator?

Ok, the bike came with a dual sport kit, headlight, tail/brake light turn signals. The battery kept going low after a ride so I replaced it with a new WPS lithium since I think the Yuasa was the original and was about dead. I'm having the same issue with the new battery now. If I ride without the lights on, the battery stays charged, but if I run them it gets low. There's a switch by the headlight to turn the lights on/off. I started the bike and checked the voltage at the terminals and get 13-13.5 at idle and 142-14.5 at 5k rpm, so I'm pretty sure the stator is doing it's job.

I thought the TXC put out enough juice to run lights? Do I need to upgrade the stator or maybe run LED lights? Thanks!

The lights should run off of the stator not the battery. Someone wired it to run off of the battery, but this is a battery killer so they put in the switch. Some more information for you the stator on your 2009 TXC 450 is the same stator that my 2005 TE 450 ran and it had no problem with the lights but they ran off of the stator not the battery.

Ok, thanks! I haven't really looked at how it was wired, just kinda assumed it was running off the stator. I know....nerver assume anything! Guess I'll have to figure out how to wire them to the stator.

Not having much luck finding wiring instructions....should I tap into the DC wire coming out of the stator or an AC wire going into it? I'm guessing the DC since running it off the battery is DC.
