  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

14 txc310r idle/backfire issue

Jon

Husqvarna
AA Class
As stated in the title my bike is a 14 txc310r and I went to ride it over to a friends house last night and the idle was surging and couldn't get it to be smooth and also it is backfiring like crazy on deceleration. Do not notice any other noises. Theres about 20hours on the bike. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. thanks in advance.

Check your air box/boot connections at the throttle body too. Might be a good idea to check the header bolts too.

the gas is whatever was left from the last time I was riding with no issues(little less than a half tank left in it)...took a quick look at the airbox and boot connections everything looks good there.

I talked to a service guy from Hall's and he said to try running some injector cleaner through it, probably going to stop and pick some up on the way home from work tonight and see if that'll help...Any other ideas?

it's a tough call sitting at a computer. Did you go down at all lat time your rode. I'd say check around those area's, see if anything looks out of place or loose.

Plug boot or wires work loose.

Rather or in addition to FI cleaner I'd consider an additive that deals with ethanol depending on the brand and the amount that's being added at your pumps.

well I go down pretty much every time I ride but the last time I rode it (last week Thursday to work) there were no issues then last night went to ride it and that's where it started happeing? maybe some sensor? I talked with a different service guy and he thinks its running to lean and would need to plug it in to see for sure but no husky dealer close to me.

Drain the gas and see if you have water in it. If you are low in gas, it becomes more likely that collected water will slosh toward the intake and flow to the engine. (A lot more sloshing happens in a small volume of fluid.) And then the engine will die, backfire and idle irregular.

Drain into a clear glass and look for water, if you see any completely drain all gas as well as cycle the fuel pump, but disconnection the line to the carb and cycle the motor by pressing the start button a few times.

I have ridden with water in my gas and not noticed it until I got to the bottom of the tank and it did what you said. For some reason my bike has gotten water in it a couple times, I think it is from the pressure washer through the gas filler cap which has breaks in the threads allowing moisture and dirt to enter (bad design).

So I drained the fuel, didn't see any noticeable water in it but after fresh gas went in the surging smoothed out not perfect but 95% better still backfires/cracks on decel

no I don't, I use my bike pretty regularly never sits for then a week without running usually.
think the injector could still be the cause of the backfiring/cracking decel?

have the open exhaust map installed which ever that one is. Was installed at the dealer with a fmf full exhaust. has been running fine ever since.

so the bike is running pretty normal now. I picked up the Sta-bil Marine, also noticed the my spark arrester was partially plugged up with packing so that might of had something to do with it. Any kind of packing better than the other?
thanks for the help.

You bike sounds like low hours to need a repack but I've always used a kit from the manufacture, they should come with rivets and whats needed to complete the job. My current pipe is from Pro Circuit and I repacked it around 80 hours or so. The kit was very complete. extra pop rivets and good instructions.

Lots of down and dirty work around as well steel wool but I'll leave that for someone else. I'm SURE FMF makes kits as well.

Its odd. The spark arestor was 70% plugged wiht packing and the FMF sticker on the pipe looks baked. Its seems as the pipe got extremely hot and "baked" the sticker. Hopefully that was just do to it being partially plugged.

Seems to run 95% normal but has a Hallow sound.
