• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

175 question

piston/ring are are like "unobtainium"
Meaning they are "really" hard to find Joe?
The reason I'm asking is because I've been lurking here trying to edu-ma-kate myself regarding the restoration of these older Husky's.
I owned and raced a 78 390 OR about 1980, so I am a little familiar with that bike. I don't see that many 125/175 bikes available but thought it would be a good size for me, in that I want it for vintage MX racing and possibly the NORRA vintage Baja race. I could also do a 250 or 430....I'm presently riding a late model KTM 300cc 4 stroke.

imho, you would be better suited with 250 or bigger..this seems to be huskys strength...more parts available as well

83 175 XC and WR.....200 of each. US market only but some have "migrated" since. not same as 82 kit and not at all like 70's models (engine parts) very tough to find the non 125 components 83 pipe for 125 and 175 was a 1 year only part and by 83, the 125 was not a top seller then, so now even rarer/more obscure. Many see my 83 and 84 125's and 175's at vintage and say stuff (good). I agree with going 250cc. 83 has nicer suspension than 82 but the 83 250 cylinder was a bit peaky. Optimum is an 82 WR250 barrel on an 83 motor ..even for MX. 82 WR IMO had better motor than even 83 CR

'82-'83 175 pistons are not "really" hard to find, the do not exist, there are none left. I probably have the only 4 of them left, but I am working (not very hard at this point) on a rod swap out of another bike that will allow the use of an off the shelf piston. I would advise you to get a 250.

Thanks guys, you've convinced me. I won't be bidding on Ebay for that beautiful 125. Great forum you have here. I look forward to sharing my project when it arrives.

I have an '82 125XC exactly like it. Other than being overweight and underpowered there is nothing wrong with the 125s, but at this point the 175 is not a viable option. The thing to remember is that chassis is identical to the bigger bikes, you if you can get that bike cheap enough, you could swap in a 250/390/430 engine easily. If I didnt already have an '82 125XC I would bid on that bike.
