• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

1973 WR250

Vinduro

Husqvarna
Pro Class
I am picking up a 1973 WR250 which I hope to ride at the AHRMA Vintage Cross Country at end of month and at Barbers Vintage Festival Cross Country. This bike has already won 2 national championships. Last owner is a friend of mine who won his class championship at Barbers 2 years ago and had a stroke the next day and has been bed ridden since. I hope to do him proud. It hasn't been run in 2 years but should with fresh gas.

Oh, I hope it has the ISDT lighting on it. If not I will be looking for a headlight. I can't remember if the bike has lights.

I have a 73 WR250 and love it. Just rode it in the ISDT Reunion Ride in MA and had a blast! Mine is more of an MX bike now with MX tank, pipe, 74 mag forks and CR 5 speed transmission. It also has a Motoplat with white and yellow lighting wires. Great bike!

Gord, Do you want to sell your WR250 tank ? I may want most of any WR250 stuff you have. The bike needs more work than I thought. It has a lot of parts off other Huskys on it. It has a 1975 type tank with the Mag swingarm. The 1974 type airbox. I want to bring it back to original. The way it looks right now it looks like a 1975 WR250 but it has the piston port engine. The serial number also IDs the bike as a 1973 (MK01776).

Sorry, I'm holding on to all the stock stuff I have. 72 isn't the same. Your 73 jug is a one year item. It has a huge exhaust port with a bridge. Mine was shot when I got the bike, but I was able to get a 73 jug from Forrest Stahl, bored with a new piston and ring.

I raced the WR250 to a class win this weekend in White City, IL. The forks were a bit stiff. How much and what weight oil goes in the black leg forks ? Still looking for a good gas tank for a 72-74 model.

I believe the factory recomends 7.5 ounces of 10 to 30wt oil. I would probably start with 15wt
This is information I received from this forum when I asked the same question. I received some great information about these forks. If you're interested, PM me and I'll send it to you.
Congratulations on your win!! Was it MX or CC?

The event was the CC AHRMA Nat'l . Club did a great job. The course was VERY fun. I was told by one tuner (Craig Hayes) that not to use over 10wt. Even as low as 5wt but I want others opinions before making a mistake. He only said he measures the oil to 5.5" from the top. (Forks collapsed and spring out) He had no idea of the amount.

I personally use 10 weight and 7.5 ounces. A big guy named Craig helped me out big time at the ISDT Reunion Ride. The lock nut that holds the clutch adjuster to the clutch plate came loose and fell in to the case. The adjuster then went right through my case cover, but didn't fall out, keeping my push rods in place. Craig helped me repair and adjust it and I ended up putting a piece of inner tube, with some silicone seal over the hole in the case cover, as well as some gorilla tape. The patch held and I never lost a drop of oil. Unfortunately, it put me over an hour late to a check which DNF'd me, but I just kept going and rode the entire event. Craig is the reason for me finishing. He knows his Husky's. (If it's the same guy).

Yep, That's him. Thanks for input. How much do you weigh and is the 10wt OK or do you think you need to go lighter or heavier ?

150 with my gear on. I would go lighter before I went heavier. But I guess that all depends on the type of riding you do and how modern the tracks are.

I went with 7.5wt 215cc. I am also using now 75/120 shock springs. 13" Progressive model 12s. STILL need a good 1973 style WR gas tank.

What does the tank look like?

I have an older tank under my bench and if you post a good pic of it. Will see if it matches?

Has two dents in front from triples.

There's a WR250 tank on Marks site. It doesn't have the tang off the back, with the hole to bolt to the frame. But you should be able to use the strap type mount that is on it now. And the price is right, compared to what I see these tanks go for on ebay.

dartyppyt, The tank he is looking for looks like the one in the above link. The only difference, I think, is at the back of the tank, there should be a tang (bracket) coming off with a hole in it, instead of the curly bracket that's on there now, set up for a strap. I think the tank will still work though. But maybe someone else will chime in and know for sure.

Both tanks look the same, but the WR Tank is bigger. The CR tank, like mine, is very slim. The WR tank is more round and holds more fuel. I wish I had one for the Reunion Ride. It would have alleviated the stress I had about running out on Sunday's 35 mile loop. As it was, I carried a small aluminum water bottle full of fuel and used it.

WRONG TANK, I need a Round Center cap tank. The one that I have is a 1975 type. The 1973 CR tank is similar to the 1975 WR tank but the WR tank is larger. I need the 1972-74 type for the WR. I think the 1972 and earlier tanks were the same as the WR. Early ones had a side cap.

Still looking for a decent 1973 tank. Also looking for a reasonable priced painter. Might have 3 tanks for him to paint.
I put 7.5wt fork oil at 215cc and that worked well. I was using 75/120lb springs. Going to straight 75lb. Now I have to get the engine rebuilt. Crank seals were going out this past weekend. I had to push off at start of Cross Country this past weekend. I did work my way up to 3rd, sewing up the Sportsman Open expert class for the year.
