  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

1976 wr360 starting help

AA Class
Just recently acquired a wr360, it has a mikuni 38mm carb on it and it is very hard to start. I've started a few times and it runs like a champ no hesitation anywhere... Just takes about a dozen kicks to start. Would it be the carb or of ignition or is there a special way to get them to start, thanks

if its jetted right, and everything is working as it should, it shouldnt take more than 3 kicks cold or 1 or 2 hot.....when your kicking it and it wont start, pull the plug and see if its wet...
are your floats sticking? might be wise to clean the carb, record what jets are in it, and make sure the pilot is clean..see if it has good blue spark while it isnt starting...

Yeah just bought it haven't looked at the ijnternals yet... I
He said he bought the carb used so it could be worn out. For starting any 2 stroke I kick it once all the way down then once the kick start is up I go slightly passed the first compression hump then bring it back up and kick it completely down. Once it started there is no problems

You only take 12 kicks to get started, your lucky. Try screwing the air screw in half a turn, might help a bit.

put the gas on & choke & kick it through 8-10 times , then kick like you described "I kick it once all the way down then once the kick start is up I go slightly passed the first compression hump then bring it back up and kick it completely down".... reason is , It's cold out & the cylinder needs to be primed

i was on HVA factory and seen the spark plug caps... the 90 degree cap is for 2 strokes while the straight on says its for 4 strokes... on my bike it has a straight one, would this mean it has the wrong spark plug cap on it?

As far as plugs and caps go on my 78 390WR I only use non-resistor ones. Sod next doors telly !
Yes, mine has the 90 degree cap.
When you come to start the bike try laying it over on it's left side till the fuel dribbles from the carb breather hose. It should start fairly easy. (mine does)
If you are still having trouble then you may have to delve a little deeper. If set up right they should be 2-3 kicks, hot or cold.

Well I'm ruling everything out, starting with the smallest... I'm going to switch the cap and plug then see if there's a change. BTW what's a good plug for them? I heard b8es is right

Bingo! It's a Euro bike. :)

Took the carb off yesterday... It has a 420 main jet, and a 50 pilot... The air fuel screw was out 3.6 turns so I turned it in to 2 turns. Got it running for a few seconds but it was revving very high so I shut it off and that was it, wouldn't start again. BTW it also has a k&n filter if that makes a difference

r the spark... Looked at that yesterday also. I don't think it has a blue spark but a very bright yellowish one. I'll check again later tonight but don't think it did

hmmm, maybe have to refresh your grounds...make sure where the coil attaches to the frame its nice and clean...also where the engine bolts to the frame it should have some clean metal...shpuld have some nice blue spark....however if its revving like that it could have an air leak or something up with the carb.....stick with the mikuni and get it figured out with that

im thinking heavily into selling the carb off and getting a mikuni from sudco already set up for the bike...

Does any of those jets sound right? When I took it off the spring on top was all messed up, the sporings where all coiled together on one side. Would that effect starting?
