  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

1978 CR250 Tank Brushed Panel Pattern

Can someone who has a '78 CR250 please take a close up picture of their tank which shows the entire brushed aluminum panel? Please try to get the shot as much face on as possible without any angles.

I want to import the photo into Corel Draw and produce a vector file of the panel and then use it as a template to mask off the panel when I paint my tank. When I get that done I'll post the vector file for others to use if needed.

My tank has the front of the panel intact but the rear is rubbed off as usual. Thanks in advance for any assistance you can provide.

Please look under the Husky club newsletters. Craig the editor had an issue with the pattens for us. I will try and see with issue for you.

Thanks Gary! I looked at the newsletters and found one with pattern outlines but they were not from a '78 tank. At least I couldn't get them to line up with what's left of my panel. I don't remember the newsletter number but maybe I was looking at the wrong one.

My thinking is if I can get a workable pattern of the panel I plan to use my vinyl cutter to cut the masking panel then cut the pin stripe around the panel and the Husky logo. However, before I do that I need to create a vector file of the panel graphic since that’s what I need to send to the cutter. I already have the logo graphic.

Again, thanks for the help.

Sorry, I was composing my post while you posted the PDF. That looks like it will work. Many thanks for your help!!!

I use a product from RBI Products #371. It's an adhesive backed matte finish conformable tracing/masking paper. They use it for doing flames on cars.
Lay it on the tank trace the outline. Eyeball the places that are rubbed off.
Peel the outline it off the tank and lay it on a piece of wax paper. Cut out the pattern and use it to make another for one side, then reverse it for the other side.
Just to make sure I get a clean line, I use 1/8" striping tape around the edge.
