• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

1979 Husqvarna CR250 help

I am considering the possibility of putting USD forks on 1979 CR250. My questions are endless and would love any help. They are from a late 80' / early 90's style bike. I know this will disqualify from vintage racing...I have originals as well.

Has anybody done this? Can it be done with relative ease? Any comments would be appreciated

It has been discussed quite a few times before so not sure how much typing folks want to do. Try the search function. In my opinion the best thing is to change the tripple clamp brake stuff axle wheel all. Not everyone seems to see things the way I do. I would go as new as possible. stuff around 2000 from husky bikes are often pretty inexpensive. I recomend 2004 and up ktm with ktm bearings but have the one in my avatar husky stuff 02 clamps, 98 wheel and axle and brake, 99 forks. Check the length modern stuff is often longer not sure about 79 but cr is longer than wr in the vintage stuff I have. Not everyone seems to have the same experience, The husky bearing is an inch series the bearings in a catalog go by bore and then there may be multiple cups for the cone. Cones and cups should match in the catalog as well as seem to fit. Forks are kind of one of the more service necessary parts of a modern bike so try and get some with not a lot of use, abuse, delayed service. If you get stuff in the year range you mention you might check and see if parts like bushings are still available.

I have done quite a bit of checking and everything I see is for late 80's swaps. I have not seen anything about the late 70's. However, I have been wrong before and will be wrong again i am sure.

Thanks a lot for your help.

What do you have the loose balls or a taper roller bearing? If you have the balls then I appologize for the above stuff. I pulled up the parts sheet for a 1979 cr 250 and it looks like the taper roller bearing to me.

I've always been under the impression the bikes got tapered bearing in 78. My 77 has balls.
