• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

1979 Wr390 Rear Wheel

Husqvarna
Hi, I recently acquired a 1979 WR390 in a box, it is missing a few parts for the rear wheel/brake assembly and I am trying to figure out what I need. I am missing the rear axle and it seems that I am missing one or more bushings that support the rear brake shoe carrier and a spacer that goes between the carrier and the swingarm. can someone look at the attached picture and let me know what I might need?

Thanks

You need to figure out if your 79 WR has the 1980 rear brake and swing arm updates. Late or actually around mid 79 production run Husky changed the rear brake peddle, rear brake plate assy, brake stay and hub and swing arm to the what the 1980 WR's use. Can you take a picture of the swing arm, and brake peddle from the brake side or right side and post it? Husky switch to the 1980 WR rear hub starting with frame # MM5594

Thanks for the replies, My frame number is MM04544, I am not sure where that falls re the updated swingarm. I have looked at the diagrams and the parts manual however I am still unsure of how it all assembles. There is a brass bushing inside the brake housing that is larger than the 15mm axle that is supposed to go through it. is there a second brass bushing that goes inside? as in between the busing pressed into the brake housing and the axle?

Thanks

1st off, it looks like you do have a true WR, once i stood on my head, cause the pic up side down. And after looking at the pics, the swingarm is a WR one, but that's a CR braking plate for sure, so that may need a custom setup.

Anyway looks like your missing Parts #49 (o-ring) & #50 (matching spacer), maybe #40
(inner spacer) too , which can all be a pain to find. Those part can fall out on disassembly
and long storage & get lost, if your not careful.

See this thread , which leads to an even older thread.

Luckily WR parts are easier to find then CR ones, if you decide to go the stock route.

If it was me I would make it right and get the 1980 WR/OR rear wheel/hub and the WR/OR rear brake assy and the correct left side wheel spacer and brake rod and bolt it all together. The 80-82 WR, OR, XC and 420AE rear wheels and brake will work. You can sell your CR rear wheel and brake assy.

Marty, where would one look for a correct wheel and backing plate? Do you guys have a source for parts for these old bikes? I think I have the only one of these around my neck of the woods.
