  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Hello All.. well after 36 years of owning this bike.. the clutch basket gear has finally given up .. anyone have a clutch basket for a 430 with 22 teeth on the small gear at the back of the basket and the intermediate gear between the basket and the kick gear with 32 teeth on it..I know this is a problem with the 430.. but mine took all this time to raise it's head..Please let me know if you have any.. this great bike that I have owned for many years should not be sitting in the shed unridden.
Cheers Brian

I am reading that there are two different "types" of gears for this model.. my bike has the original "fine pitch" teeth gears.. does anyone know the number of teeth per gear for the coarse pitch gear replacement for this bike..??

I've had a look in the parts book.. they don't quote the number of teeth on the gears for the 430 .. others 250 etc they do.. but not for the 430..

Save your old baskets. Rick Horvart has been repairing a few batches a year. Cutting old gear off. Having
a new gear hobbed ( thats cut) and then laser welding a new gear on. You have to rebore, grind the bearing surface too.
more details later.

yep.. I have the replacement metal bearing.. all good there..
And the basket for sale ex Ron Bishop has 21 teeth on the small gear on the back of the basket.. which I understand is the fine pitch gear.. but.. mine has 22 teeth..!! anyone have an idea as to what is going on there..?

Wasn't there talk here about using a 250 starter gear setup with possibly the basket that makes the bigger bore easier to start? I'm not sure about it changing the primary gear ratio.

84 had 17 teeth and 87 18t. This baffled me till i assembled and tested the 18t with kickstart idler from 17t setup. Both work and run on same idler.

My guess is the 21t and 22t will work with same idler gear. Assemble and if it rotates freely with similar wiplash, complete and ride it.

It depends on what diameter the teeth are cut on that's the difference. Some starter gear teeth look chunky while others are thinner. How many teeth are Hobbed on the same diameter. Just make sure the backlash is ok.
