• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

wilb67- the pics & article here are for the '83 500 (white frame) but are a good starting place. elsewhere on this site you'll find tests from MXA on both the '82.5 & '83 CRs plus in the Husky Club newsletter files is an article on my rest0/race for 2 seasons '82.5

Some more pictures I found at Per Åbergs website

Lefty - let me tell you my plan and I'd love your feedback. I picked up another bike that has a nice 500CR 4 spd with a very nice '83 pipe/silencer. I want to put this motor in my pristine '83 250CR ( which really didn't want to sell anyway ) have a couple of VM38's laying around. I've got the billet intake for it will be adding the RaceTech kit as works pretty good on the 82.5, along with the stiffer rear ITC springs. Plan on getting your brake pedal/arm when they come out ( chain guide ? ) Hopefully can get Uptite pipe. Really want to do this one up right as it's in very, very good shape. How about the boost bottle kit on the 500 ? I've searched through the jetting threads and found the one's on the 500 but by chance you got any specs for a 500 with a 38VM ? Thanks for all your help.

see the article in HuskyClub newsletter (on this site) with my rebuild, all specs should be in it. Only things I'd do different from what you're attempting would be to run a pre-'81 series tank (without the hump) so you can get further up on it. Run the stock '83 pipe in the '83 frame until you can find someone to build a lighter/better one, UpTite never will :( . Also, build the rear wheel with a 19" rim, better tire selections and turns in easier.

My original is for sale, resides in CT.

Crikey, now I want to build one.

Hey Lefty, you know which issue ? I've scanned through them twice to no avail will try again. ....found it issue #32

I would like to see it also, having two 500's. I couldn't find issue #32 in the listing, I'm I missing something? Thanks Scott

yeah i have a montessa 309 trails bike and a bsa 650 lightening thats a moto x bike
i bought a rough but running ts 400 for $300 and it smashed a piston after a while so i the hunt for parts dad found a complete mint tm 400 with a spare ts motor and a spare set of cases for good money so yeah . apparently the tm will go really well with the ts flywheel & stator on it. if you saw the tracks we ride here in NZ youd not be too worried about the tm

Got you now, great pics and clearly ideal TM 400 country!

i didnt realise NZ was in drought conditions? was that dust???

A mate of mine over there has just done up an RM 250. He was a sponsored rider years ago on an RH and is keen to get into the racing again.

cheers

depends where abouts in the country you are . summer is 30+ degrees and dusty ,winter it snows to sea level a couple of times a year .
