• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

1982 XC 125 Question

Hi All,
First post and first foray into the world of vintage bikes. I picked up a 1982 125XC in good condition but in need of a freshening. I'm tearing it down to the frame to get an idea of what can be salvaged vs what needs purchased and embarrassingly enough, ended up stuck at the front wheel. What is the proper way to remove the wheel on these things? I assume you would loosen the axle block on the throttle side and unscrew the axle using a breaker bar through the hole in the axle. Is this right? I got some movement but it wouldn't break loose and I don't want to go nuts and possibly break something. I can't imagine anything weird like reverse threading or something like that.

Any help is appreciated.

Thanks,
Chuck

loosen axle nut then only pinch bolt nuts on side that does not have the spacer. This stays pinched.pull out axel

Hi, my forks are the 40mm. I finally got them apart. It appears the axle sleeve is not a stock part and the axle was actually threaded into it. Once I figured that out I was able to get the axle loose. Checking now to see if I can find that sleeve NOS. If not shouldn't be too tough to make one. Thanks again for the help on this. These bikes are pretty straightforward but working without a manual does mean flying blind a bit.

Another question. I was looking at the parts microfiche and in the engine build I see no part number for a head gasket. Did these things come machined so good they didn't use a gasket or do you just layer something like Yamabond on when rebuilding?

Thanks again,
Chuck

I pulled the head and cylinder to check the condition of the piston and bore. Everything looks nice and clean. Do you guys recommend any type of prep to the head and cylinder mating surfaces prior to reassembly? First bike with no head gasket so this is new. Also, what is the recommended torque when re-assembling?

Much thanks.
