  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

1984 250 WR Specs

1982 XC 430

Husqvarna
AA Class
Hello, A buddy has a 1984 250 WR project Bike he is willing to give up. I am familiar with the 82's but not so with the 84's. This is an Air Cooled 250 I assume the CR and maybe the XC were water cooled. I assume that its the same story with the Suspension as in the WR is lower than the CR-XC Bikes. As the 83 and newer have the next generation Ohlins if they are shorter than the CR-XC they must be kinda hard to come by. If I was to pick this bike up I was thinking I could have the Newest (84) Bike that could be in the EVO class with Air Cooled,Twin Shock and Drum Brakes. Thanx..

My 84 WR/XC hybrid was my favorite all around bike. The ITC Ohlins suspension is first class and the 84 had the pulled back steering head angle, 28.5 if I remember right. The ride nice and turn great. Should stop good also with DLS front brake. The 84 has different porting than the previous models, very soft low end with big top end hit, may not be that violent with WR pipe. Sounds like you found another good project.

OK so do the XC and WR share the same ITC Ohlins Shocks? Are not the WR's useing shorter shocks and less suspension travel ? One problem this bike has is that the Shock Rods are Rusted. If they are a WR only length they may be hard to come by. To convert to the CR suspension I would need the Forks, Swingarm, and Shocks. Besides the rear fender Frame Loop are the Frames diffrent?

The WR uses a 1" shorter swingarm and very possibly the same exact shocks. CR gets the extra travel from the longer swingarm as the pivot to shock mount distances are identical between the WR and CR/XC swingarms.

The frames are identical except for the rear frame loop and the middle rail in the frame cradle on WR/XC. Husqvarna made few difference between their frames.

The shocks are identical,......EXCEPT the WR shock has an extra spacer inside the shock to limit extension of the shock shaft.

I made my 84 WR into a XC with the following, swingarm, rear shocks and front forks. Everything else is the same. CR and XC share the same suspension other than the CR has full floating rear brake as far as I know.
