• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

compression test is a given....check behind the waterpump impeller housing for corrosion. the early liquid cool sidecovers were still mag. service the suspension, parts are readily available for that...you may have an issue motocrossing it with the wide ratio tranny...when the swedes said wide ratio, they meant it. unlike the italians...

I will be doing a hare scramble series on it....

W/p is done already

My bro is gonna do shocks and I'll do forks

And it's only got 2 races on top end

are there any restrictions against a front disc? that is an easy conversion change a fork leg and front wheel

it can be made into a 400, you can bore out the cases to fit the bigger crank or just get a pair of cases for one, or just get a 400 engine, they are drop in, minor differences, pipe, jetting and carb boot

Ride the 2fitty for a while and see whats its like, they are a nice enough engine with nice low end power and an easy to use top end rush.

I would use motorex synthetic oil at 50:1 and use an alloy muffler and rejet it to suit the fuel mix

get hold of 13 and 14 tooth front sprockets for tight and long courses

spend time on the drum brake, there is a thread here about lining the drum with emery paper and working the shoes around to get a full contact patch happening. no doubt a disc is better but the drum can be effective ( I can do front wheelies with my drum).

see Phil at Husqvarna parts for leak proof seals for the forks...they work well.

enjoy the plusho matic ride you get with the ohlins, its like an armchair!

if your struggling with it, chase a big bore 400.

the swedes are strange in that if you check out the suspension just sitting in the garage it feels under damped and undersprung...somehow it works great when it under power and moving....
take solace in while you do have a drum in the front, it has to be one of the best drums made on a bike...the dls is harder to set up but should be able to work it into a good brake....nice job being able to endo suprize, i havent been able to set them up that well. i can vouch for phils fork seals, they were dry for me all summer...
the lc husky motors had great powerbands for not having a power valve...and going to straight-thru silencer will help it out some

the front endo trick is more technique than a powerful drum but it helps! see graham Jarvis Spanish training clip on utube.. superb front brake control.

I am very familar with these bikes when they were new.... I had a 84 125CR, 85 250XC, 86 400WR, 87 430XC all new (uncle is a Husky dealer lol).... so I love the motors....even left kick it dont bother me..... The series I own we have a "bomber" class which is drum brakes only.... that is the reason I went for this bike....
Drum rear dont bother me at all.... front is scary at times... I got water in one and had almost zero brakes....
I am familar with the single shock husky but I dont remember a thing about the dual shocker....

Fork seals are good at the moment but I will check Phil out when I need them....

I will be on the lookout for a 400 or 430 which I really liked...

Uncle Husky sounds "IDEAL";) I had a mate who took on a husky dealership for a short period and I rode an 84/5 WR 240 twin shocker for him at the main Victorian enduro series rounds. was hard work until I clicked with the bike and have loved them since. the plush ride is awesome and the brakes will vanish in the presence of excess H2O will always come back with some heat (not like Kwakas which are migratory...first sign of rain and they go south!!)
