• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

i traded a three wheeler for this bike and the motor ended up being a 400 wr and the piston and crank was shot, i bought a 430 cylinder piston and crank from a fellow husky owner and had the cases split and the new/used crank dropped in, now the problem im running into is figuring out how the shifter linkage was set up does anyone have a link to a pdf file??? i also need a gearbox side crank seal and retainer plate does anyone know where to find these? ill post pics later on today

Something is a bit confusing here. That is unless gearbox side means chain sprocket side the way you define things. The crank seal for the gearbox side (primary drive side) is on the inside so those two side by side crank bearings run in the transmission/clutch fluid or oil. What I would call the retainer on that side has four small machine screws and is steel. Right or wrong I always put that in first and then install the bearings touching it then the seal then the crank kind of in the process of closing up the cases. The seal over on the other side by the ignition is in an aluminum piece and that double row bearing is lubricated by the pre mix and the seal can be switched by removing the electrics and that aluminum piece.

thanx u have cleared that up for me for some rason i thot the crank seal was on the outside on the gearbox side like the ignition side haha

here are a couple pics of the old beast i wish i could get a 500 motor for it instead of the 430. Was there much of a difference between the 430 and the 500

The 430 & 500 share the same piston, but the cylinder is 10 mm taller & the crank is offset by 5mm (5up 5down=10mm) also I'm not sure but the carby, intake maifold & reeds maybe different & the pipe will have different specs as well.
Hope this helps, I've just bought a 500 & am looking forward to the fun.
Cheers.

thanx for the info dude let me know if u happen to find an extra 500 motor haha ill c how i like this 430 first i guess

All though the 500 is the bike alot of people always say they dream of owning, the liquid cool 500 was a regular paint shaker. The 400 & 430
suffer from some vibration issues too. I owned a 86 400 enduro & it was of my favorite woods bikes, & i love the motor on my 82 430 air cooled
CR , so i'll bet you'll like yours.

Go to the US eBay/motors find a crank/rod, cylinder & head & presto you have your 500 for a whole heap cheaper than getting what could be a self destructing bomb & the parts will be a lot cheaper to import by mail.
