• Husqvarna Motorcycles Made In Sweden - About 1988 and older

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

1988 430 enduro manual, Supermoto??

Husqvarna
AA Class
So, if you guys remember, i have a TE 510 I restored to the best of my abilities at the age of 17 or so, maybe younger. 1988. I found a 1988 430 enduro 2 stroke for 1400 in near mint condition that i will be buying saturday. I am geeking like a little kid, and one of the things I was going to do, was switch out forks, rims, convert the drum brake to disc, maybe big rotor it, and maybe thats about it really. I was told this bike performs well at higher speeds, and the motor is one of the best they made.

Before you shower me in hate, I 100% want to ride this bike on the street on the regular. Parts are ready and available everywhere, and I think it would be a jaw dropper to anyone who rides see an old ass husky on the road. I think this bike has the best body style as well out of the 80's.
What do you guys think? I really am going to buy it on saturday, and start. Has anyone done this before?

if you dig through the past on this site there are a few that did the rear disc conversion
the front is easy, except for 91 and 92 all the years share bearings and it is just a matter of figuring out which forks you want and buy a front end
I mean buy it from the triples down including wheel brakes and axle
so now back to the back, I did a little research as I was going to do this also, most of the later wheels with slight mods fit, but all have bigger axles
mill out the slots in your swingarm, post lots of pics as you do this
back to the front they put KYB fronts on a while back, do a little digging as those work pretty well

You can bolt a 90/91 TE swingarm and wheel straing into a 430, I gave them a test fit recently, but didn't ride it, the only other mod required would be a master cylinder mount for the rear brake pedal. A wrecked 350/510/610 would be a good starting point.
I have used my 88 400 swingarm and rear wheel in my 91 610 (to comply with local club rules, must be rear drum) and it works great!

does the hock and linkage line up?
certain it doesn't on the 92, tried that

On my 91 TE610, it was a straight bolt in, I left the 610 shock in place though. I'll dig out a pic of it when I'm at my pc.

No master cylinder as this is running a rear drum., I've only just taken the 400 rear wheel out of the 610 as I'm restoring the 400 finally., I'll go through my old pics and see if I have any photos Greg.

Correct Greg, the axle sizes are different, 20mm for the 610 from memory and 16 or 17 for the 400, I used the 400 rear wheel and swingarm in my 610, you can use the 610 swingarm if you change the bearings and bore the brake backing plate to 20mmand weld a brake stay lug on the swingarm.

Your biggest problem with riding this bike on the road won't be brakes. It might be carburation and mixture. As you ride along at a steady speed - 30-40mph - you will be running at very low throttle setting. Maybe still on the pilot jet. This will mean a lean mixture and possible engine damage. A few years ago I rode my '87 auto for about 10 minutes on a country road at about 30mph. The spark plug was bleached white - a very lean mixture. Be careful.

So i got both the cross country and enduro. Waiting for the dmv to open back up to fadangle a street title for it in florida. I have been lately just working on the enduro, mainly to get it running without any issues. I actually found a way around vibrations as well. Does anyone know of a possibly alternative for an electrical system on the bike? The enduro model has head light and tail lights, as well as an odometer. But id need turn signals, and probably a horn too

I had them on my 88 WR for a DMV inspection.
I did use a small battery with no charging to work a flasher relay.
Normal motor cycle horn makes a good enough noise off stock power to pass.
1 mirror, brake light switch, blah blah.
Battery in tool pack, it was a temporary but very official looking install of the signals, wires, lights and switch.
Hope it helps you a bit.

Lol, and that was all just for the inspector to pass you? I was thinking of getting q chatging system going if possible and just run everything off the battery

Well it took me an afternoon to set up the signals, it passed and it all came off in 20 minutes.
That was 5 years ago and its street legal with papers. Good luck in Florida trying to do yours LOL
