  • Hi everyone,

    As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

    When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

    Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

    Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

    Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Hey i'm about to buy a 2005 TC 250.

Please tell me all you know about the bike because i never heard of it before.
I'm looking for a woods bike so would a TC do good in woods?

Currently i ride an old KTM 300 2 stroke and i have only 2 years experience but i ride pretty hard.

Does TC have some issues that i should know about?
I'm worried about e-start slightly because it seems that it doesen't have a kickstart so if battery runs out or e-start breaks i can't fire up the engine.

How is the reliability of those engines? The one i plan on buying has 100 hours on it without opening, owner says he changed oil every 10-15 hours and that machine fires up and runs great.
 
I bought an 07 TC250 used, its been awesome. The jetting needs a bit of love, other than that its a great bike. I ride 95% woods in tight PNW stuff. It took me a while to get used to it, its got no low end torque so it wont grunt like a big 4 stroke, once you get used to hitting things faster its a blast to ride. I added a rekluse clutch as well, its freakin great!

Can you at least tell me how much HP does it have and how is it going compared to japs ?
 
Youd get more replies if you said TXC or 450....lol I dont think theres too many 250 guys on here.

And, unfortunately I cant help you with either of those 2 questions.

Sorry, it has been busy at my end.

2005 TC250 has virtually the same engine as my 2006 TE250. I never ever touch the kickstarter - the estart works 100%. Uber reliable engines and mine has many hours on it, several people have reported 5,000 miles and have not touched the engine. The valves do not move, if they did, it would be a 5 minute job to adjust them (see tech reference section for video).

The main difference between that bike and my bike is the rear wheel and the TC has gear spacing sorta like a crf250r whereas my spacing is sorta like a crf250x - mine is spaced wider.

The bike you are looking at is a good bike.

I had an 06. It was a great bike, very durable, make as much HP as any jap bike etc. Forks need some work to be real good. The biggest down side to me was the tight ratio trans which when geared for tight woods work left about 45-50 mph on top. I would have kept that bike longer had it had a TE transmission in it (wider ratio). It's a very good bike and should treat you right.

I'm going to look at the bike and try it out today and propably buy it if it is in good condition.

Based on your answers Huskys are very reliable engines.

Just 1 more question. Can i fit 06+ plastics on 05 bike? Plastics and bolting points seem very similar/identical.

Yes you will be fine! Just a color change :)

Hell i even use the 05 plastic on my 08 CR125!! Last year to do that.....
 
Sorry it a late reply, I have a 05 tc 250 and I love it (a little old school with all the right stuff) ,came off a yzf 250, let me know what mod you need info on, I did JD jet kit, 12 tooth front sprocket, scott fuel screw, custom opened up the pipe flow, (saftey wire you rear brake pin) just the basic stuff, it only took me 8 hour to dial it in, (it took 8 months to do the yzf) more to come, see Dan at Motoxotica http://www.motoxotica.com/ great shop and great info
