  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

Hi Guys
After riding the 250 in Hancock...i came back home to see oil kind of seeping thru the spark plug and the engine case....is it because of too much oil that its sneaking out...i will take some pictures later on and post for some recommendation.
Thanks
Rudy

It could be from an over fill, or from a drop but more likely it is leaking from the tappet cover. A little oil can appear to be a lot when it is dispersed over and engine at attracts dirt etc. Lets have a look at you photos so we can help with a better diagnosis Rudy.

attached are the pictures.....there oil close to the spark plug

How do i fix it...or just clean up the mess and then next ride over make a check on where exactly the oil is comming in from.....
if it is the decompressor shaft...what exactly is that and what does it do ( i know there is a decompression lever on the handle bar, but the use of it is not 100% clear to me)

Clean it off thoroughly and then take it on a short 5-10 minute ride. It should be a lot easier to spot the leak that way. Looks like might be a leaking valve cover gasket. Either the gasket itself is bad, or the valve cover bolts are not tight, or stripped. They tend to strip fairly easy when you check the valves.

The lever on your clutch reservoir pulls the cable attached to the decompressor lever. It is for when you kickstart your bike. You find the top of compression with your kickstarter, then pull in the lever on the bar and gently push the kickstarter about a quarter stroke, then let go of the decompressor lever. That lever just opens one of your exhaust valves far enough, so that you can overcome the compression and get a good kick on the kickstarter.

My $$ is on the valve cover. You can seal it better by cleaning the gasket surfaces and using Permatex 1(non-hardening). The seal could be designed better. The bolts may just be loose- Hancock worked our bikes pretty hard. My WR250did well but I missed the TE on the roads and in some of the rocks. My hands are still a little numb:D
