  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2007 te euro 3 question

MotoXotica

Husqvarna
AA Class
the bike is a 2007 te 510 euro3, regarding the Del Orto electronic device that attaches to the rear fender, from looking at the husky diagrams i think they call it an ecu.what exactly does it do ,is it a necessary device or is it emissions fluff?thanx, dan

Are you serious? The ecu or electronic control unit, controls the spark timing (fuel injection too if applicable)
Motorcycles and other vehicles have had this since points, rotor arms and distributors became a thing of the past, probably in the late 70's! I remember points on my KH 400 Kawasaki, what fun!
So yes, you do need it!
Thats if indeed it is your ecu, im not familiar with the 2007 model :-)

That is not the ECU. It controls the air valve which puts air into the rubber manifold between the cylinder head and carburetor. It is on the wiring diagram in the upper right hand corner.

Your ECU is in front of the battery, rubber mounted.

So if I have capped off the intake and removed the air valve can this box be removed? It would sure clean things up under the seat.

Yes. I took the whole wiring harness apart and removed all the unnecessary wires, and properly capped any "hot" wires. Get that catalytic converter out of there ****************************************!

I never ran with the catalytic convertor. So far I have removed the air pump and capped the line at the intake. I also removed the sensor that is on the right side of the airbox. Thanks for the link Pawel, I will take a look at what is involved with removing the unit.

You know that the catalytic converter is welder in the input end of the muffler?

I cat muffler was removed before I picked it up. I got the boat anchor in the garage somewhere. I suspect the other muffler is the race muffler with a SA.

I'm the guy that Dan posted this question for. Thanks to Dan and all here who replied. The issue arose when replacing a rear fender I bought from Dan. The common non-Euro 3 fenders aren't molded with space to accommodate this EUSCV. I assume the wiring hack you describe will work on a 510? I replaced the catalytic converter long ago and removed all of the other Euro 3 smog stuff but this box due to the tach not working. Thanks again for the info. Ill perform the mod tonight when I get home. Then I can put my brand new, shiny fender on!

What am I sure about? The catalytic converter is in the inlet end of the muffler. The muffler assembly is welded together. I bought some stainless wire for the MIG welder, but have been too busy to cut it out and weld it back together.

Euro 3's should have come with two different pipes. I am not sure why a dealer or original owner (if not you) would keep that crazy heavy pipe on the bike. I am not sure if you have seen the difference in the two pipes....but I have both.

Yes, I had an additional Arrow slip-on supplied by the dealer when I bought the bike new. Nice, light weigh, and free flowing after cutting out the restrictor on the exit side of the silencer. Put it on first thing and re-jetted. Tach working after wiring mod you previously puzzled out. Fan not an issue at present due to being removed to fit bike with a desert tank. Thanks again for posting the info.
