  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2007 te450 chasing ghosts

hey fellas. i have an 07 te450. it ran well for the first few days i had it, didn't ride much just around town. then it started sputtering and shutting off, needed the idle 2000+rpm to stay alive. so the carb was cleaned and put in an inline fuel filter to make sure shit doesn't get in the carb. now the carb is set back to 1.5 turns out on the A/F screw, and it won't stay idling for the life of me.. i have no idea what to do anymore. anyone help please?

:excuseme: what could it be..?

Was there crap in the bowl to cause you to add the filter? There might be another piece of grit or whatever in the pilot again. Or, did you clean the pilot out enough to clear it the first time?

If you tickle the choke will it keep running? If you raise idle does it still keep running?

there was some minor shit in there. but just to be safe i added it, the filters right in between the ON/OFF switch and the carb so there can't be anything in there, not even a tank of gas through it yet :(

I added some stuff above.

And check for an intake boot crack, they were pretty common on my 2006 bikes. Will not run right and be super lean.

this is the fuel filter i threw on it

So i went out, started the bike and it did the saaame shit :/ stays running with choke on, drops a few hundred rpm, but will run.

Then i went ahead and added a 1/4 turn on the A/F screw on the carb and it stayed alive, but just barely. and if i go for a ride on it, and it gets nice an hot it'll die sitting a light. You can see it in this vid how it stutters ( misfire? )

The filter should be find as long as fuel us flowing thru it well. Check you have good flow at the carb inlet into a cup and try those things above.

How high do you have to set the idle to keep it running. IMO your lean so clog in carb, or air getting in thru a leaky intake boot, or it's not jetted right.

Or....

Is it stock jetting? I can't believe it might be cause that's how they ran bone stock. Barely.

idle needs to be around 2000 to stay alive, i believe its stock jetting. didn't write down the number on the jet when the carb was out. well the boot on the right side, between the carb and engine looks dry rotted, gonna pull it and see if those cracks are letting in air. I'm praying its that and then its an easy fix :)

And the screw I think your turning is a fuel screw, it points straight down off the carb. If you turn it in, you are giving it less fuel. Out = more fuel. Not sure which way your going on it but up to 2.5 full turns out isn't unusual.

Mine all tore very clearly but it's very possible. Read above post before you pull it apart and let me know if you have trouble finding a replacement.

You can also spray it with WD40 or such and if it runs fine when your spraying it, that's your air leak.

Yeah, open it up a bit. Is it cold where you are? If it needs more than 2.5 it probably would like a one step bigger pilot but yeah, don't limit yourself to the spec on that. From 1.5-2.5 will be fine.

Ok, you found it. Good. I'd suggest a JD jet kit while its apart, and test different settings and get a feel for that fuel screw. It makes a big difference. Good luck and follow up on availability on that manifold.

No its only 40-50 degrees F. here in NY. now i see why it would run with what i thought was rich, cause it needed lot more fuel for the that air, but if i get to 2 full turns out on the A/F screw it'll foul the plug. well I'm glad that worked out!! thanks a bunch old3:cheers:

Any time, and fwiw, depending on your jetting 40f can be cold! Lol! That JD kit is a good investment IMO. I'm jetting sensitive so consider that. I use a t handle fuel screw do I can fine tune it easily for temp variations.

i really want to learn more about these bikes and carbs in general so i can just tinker with it and have fun! I guess experience only comes from trying and failing many of times lol
