  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2008 smr450 starting and idling problems****************************************!

Hey guys! Ok here's the problem. I have a 2008 smr450. With about 4700 miles on it. The bike is hard to start. Usually takes about 20 seconds to start and sometimes longer. And I have to turn the throttle alittle to get it to start. Not always though. Sometimes it will start with out the need to turn the throttle. Once it does start it idles ok for a few minutes and once it warms up the idle comes down and starts idling pretty weird. Then after a few seconds of idling funny it will stall out. Not all the time but most of the time it will stall. If I'm riding and come to a stop light it will stall if it idles for more than 20 seconds. Sometimes it will stall coming up to a stop. I took it to a dealer and I'm convinced that the guy I took it too has no idea what he's doing because it's been there three times and he can't figure out the problem. It was remapped. I don't know what map it has in it. The sensor on the exhaust is plugged up and it has a stock exhaust and stock air filter. Could it be too much fuel and not enough air? Or too much air and not enough fuel? Or could the fuel injection system be acting up? I'm new to the Husqvarna world and have zero knowledge about them lol. Any help is much appreciated! Thanks guys!

Tough one. Have you done anything to the bike? Gone over all the electrical connections? Ever been hooked up to ibeat? Bad lean sensor?

I never hooked it up to I beat. I don't know about the previous owner. And the guy I took it to said he checked everything but clearly he didn't check it out enough. And I am going to check the Intake manifold now! Thanks guys!

It sounds initially like the TPS (thottle position sensor) is out of adjustment- basically- it should only start with no throttle.
But you said it was 'remapped' I assume that means hooked up to IBeat. But maybe you have a PowerComander?
Since you state you are unfamiliar- I would find a good dealer that knows IBEAT and can set it up correctly- the 2008 requires different tuning procedures than most are familiar with, versus Husky Mikuni 2009-2012. These systems are stable- so no need to re/map correct and adjust numerous times if done correctly the first time.

I agree, it could be as simple as an intake leak too.
