  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2009 TE 250 Engine Noise

DeanRM

Husqvarna
AA Class
I have a 2009 TE 250 with 175 miles on it. It has the power-up kit, but I left the spark arrestor in so I can ride it on the gravel roads.

I have noticed a noise around 5,000 rpm, seems like it happens more under load. It is kind of a rattling noise that sounds like it is coming from the engine. I don't think it is pinging, I run 91 octane non-oxy gas, but might try some 100 octane low-lead race gas just to make sure.

Any ideas, do the '09 also have the cam bearing issues?

Thanks!

Bike calls for 98 RON, you are running about 96 RON on a brand new engine that is making all of it's 12.9:1 compression, I'd put a few ounces of octane booster in it and see if the rattling goes away.

Thanks for the advice! Do you have any recommendations on brands of octane booster, and what is the RON of 100LL? Thanks!!!

The rattling may be the spark arrestor itself. Remove it and go for a test ride just to check, they do like to rattle and they are just held in with a snap ring.

Yes, mine does this! Pop the spark arrestor out and check again. Mine makes a very noticeable rattle and is only obvious at certain rpms.

Thanks for the advice on the spark arrestor! I put a couple of wraps of aluminum from a beer can around the outside of the spark arrestor to make it a tight fit in the muffler to eliminate the annoying rattling...and I think it has worked great so far! I am going to try some 100 octane race gas and see if that helps, hopefully that does the trick!

Picked up some 100 Race Gas from the gas station for $4.99/gal, I believe it is leaded. The noise seems to have gome away for the most part, still a little noise coming from the motor, might be normal, but way better than before. Thanks for the help guys!!!

Isn't the spark arrestor intentionally made to rattle like that to help stop carbon from building up on it?

Great question! I'm not sure, that could be the case! It seems odd that they would make it rattle like that without some reson behind it! Maybe I should take the aluminum shims out of it and let it rattle away...it is irritating though!!!

Stupid question but are you sure it's in the engine, the rear rotor makes a terrible rattling clanging noise sometimes, it's supposed to be part of the "floated" design

jrems, you could be right, or it might be coming from the front rotor if that is also designed to float. I will try to narrow it down. Thanks for your suggestion...great idea!!!
