  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2009 TXC 450 Questions

Glad to have the opportunity to take part in this forum. I have really enjoyed the posts on the TXC 450s and I would like to find out more about the bikes.

I have purchase a new 2009 TXC 450 a few months ago which I am still learning about. I love the new bike (both the ride and the look of it), after updating from my old YZ 400F. I live in Victoria, Australia and ride mainly single track and some open fire trails. I am an intermediate level, 95 kg, mature rider, but I keep myself in decent shape. My questions are;

1) would I be better suited to go to a 14 tooth FS, and will this enable me to use the meat of the power better (having slightly taller gearing). Considering the type of riding I do?

2) What is the mod that can be done to the carby to prevent bog? (the jetting seems fine for just above sea level).

3) I havent touched the suspension settings at all, is this wise considering my limited knowledge. It seems ok for the bush with my weight, but i dont have much to compare it too.

4) I really liked the loud note and the hit of the old YZ (with power pipe). Are there any mods i can do to the exhust?

5) are there kick stands available- to fit on this model?

6) I am looking at oil/ filter changes every 10hrs, screens checked every other service, valves checked at about 30-35 hrs- does this sound about right, as far as periodic maintenance?

Thanks in advance for any tips. Any other tip bits of information/ advice on my bike would be most welcome.

Hi David,
I stumbled across an excellent article in the American Dirt Bike magazine called 'Me and My Husky' by a chap called Scott Summer regarding the Husqvarna TXC 510(450) models.
It's a good read and it certainly touches on most of your questions. It also points out how the TXC models are higher spec'd than the others in the range.
Hope this helps.
Craig
PS - love the TXC apart from the steering wobble at higher speeds.
