  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2010 SM510 Question - Do you need a P/U Kit? Is there even such a thing?

I have a 2008 SM510 with the P/U kit and Arrow exhaust. Prior owner did all that work. Love the bike and it runs perfectly.

My best friend has asked me to go buy him a SM bike now so I am trying to decide between a new 2010 at a very nice discount to MSRP or a used 2008. I have decided against the 2011 SM511 for cost reasons and also because I kind of like the idea of us having nearly identical bikes for maintenance and riding reasons.

Question for you guys who are running the 2010 SM510s...do you not need to do a P/U kit anymore on that model? The prior owner of my 2008 said it ran like crap before the P/U kit and exhaust but I understand maybe the dual exhaust setup on the 2009/10 solves that issue and it has full power from the factory? Is this true? Thanks, Dan

Hi Dan. The 10's are the same as the 09's apart from a few minor mods.. You'll need the o2 bypass, air filter cage, throttle stop removed and if you do these mods, then either gut the OE cans or buy an aftermarket set up. There's loads of info about it all on here.

And Have the ECU set with the latest recommended CO settings or go for the Husky special parts Race ECU for the 510 Part #8000H2004 and that thing will rip.

Damn! Forgot to mention that and I've been asking that very question about mine

Thanks for the info guys. I think I read somewhere the P/U kit comes with the bike for 2010. If so I will ask the dealer to install before shipping (ordering one from out of state). If they can't for some reason, how poorly do the bikes run when completely stock setup? The previous owner of my '08 510 said it ran like crap out of the box.

Def poor out of the box but only due to the emissions hoops they have to jump through to be sold.. Give it 500 steady running in miles, get the PU done and the ECU tweaked at your dealer, then if you've got any pennies left, get a decent pipe or gut the stock cans and a dyno set up. They get better and better the more miles you do

The selling dealer offered to do the "uncorking" for $130 which seems reasonable to me. They are also putting on the 3gal IMS tank and some Avon Distanzas for free (keeping the stock rubber) so we will be pretty much ready to hit the roads + trails when it gets delivered.

Question on exhausts....how do you go about de-restricting the stock dual setup. How would you gut the cans? Or is it better to buy the LV dual setup or a single Arrow like I have on my 2008 SM510. I wouldn't mind the bike being a bit quieter as long as the stock dual setup won't sap too much performance.

I def wouldn't pay to have the 'uncorking' done

but if they're throwing in a free IMS tank and some new rubber......

Here's a link to doing the cans yourself, but if your dealer is in the Xmas mood you might get some Akra's thrown in as well!!

PS the stock items are really restrictive and if you run the 'uncorking' set up with the OE cans you'll get issues and poor performance.

In Continental Europe (Germany), the 2010 510 is not street legal when delivered in its crate. To get it registered, it has to be castrated (see above). It would then have about the same output as a zimmer frame. Husky regard the 510 as a competition bike that was not intended for street use. The 630 etc. are their "compromise" bikes. Take a look at the Husky web site and look out for the bikes with a plate on the back. Those are the street legal ones.

To confirm, I was passed by one irate old lady on said zimmer frame. Most humiliating
