  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2010 TE 450 Questions.

Bikerdad

Husqvarna
C Class
Still breaking in the new bike only got ~150miles on her but have a few questions I hope folks can help me with.

Have a bit of a backfire coming off throttle, not all the time but fairly frequent. Too much fuel or is this common/normal for the bike.

Getting about 37mpg with mixed on and off road use. Is this low I ran out of gas on first ride:excuseme: Was figuring I would be in the 40's. Running pretty much stock but dealer did adjust the std map to make it run better.

I would like to put a carrier plate on the tail of the bike (eg PMB or the like) Noticed that others mentioned using the TE 610 sub frame carrier bracket but may not fit on the 2010 bike. Has someone made this work or come up with another solution?

I need to do the first oil change but dealer does not have the filter in stock. Does it use the same oil filter as the 09 or is it something else?

the backfire is normal ie fuel this will go with time aprox 400 to 500 miles it needs to run in and free up after that get your dealer to readjust the map. and 09 oil filter the same as 010

Your MPG is a bit low, but not off by much (40-42 seems to be I what get on my 09 510). Do you have the power-up kit installed? Either way that figure should increase as the machine lossens up. As far as I know the 09 and 2010 bikes share the same oil filter.

I recenbtly got a new/Used 09 (108 miles) and it had some backfiring. THe dealer already installed the Power UP kit and it was too rich off idle. I was able to lean it out using the idle screw on the right side of the throttle body, I screwed it in 1/4 turn at a time till it ran better and then fine tuned it with 1/8-1/16 turn adjustments. Its no spot on perfect. It should be idling 1700-1800 rpms, any lower and its probably too rich.

The oil changes are easy, 1-filter 1-screen and 1.5 quarts of oil. I used worlds most expensive Motorex 10-50 until it breaks in then I will go to a more affordable MC oil.

I put Kenda DUal sport tires on mine and changed sprockets for some more gearing and its getting about 60 mpg on street. Its never seen the dirt yet.

I couldnt find a nice rack that flowed with the Husky rear fender and lines so I made my own, It took all day and at least a 12-pack but it came out nice, I bought a red/black Husky tool bag from Home Depot that fits on it and you can stuff your jacket and whatever else for a long days ride. Its the same size as the rear fender and just sits 1/2" above and is made of 1" strip metal painted white,

Good info LaDSM, but the oil changes are 1 filter 3 screens and 1.5 quarts of oil. On the left side of the bike there are two locations where screens are present, and the larger screen has a screen within the screen.

Thanks guys, I got a 14 tooth front sprocket so I'll see how that helps but I doubt I'll get it up to 60mpg, that's impressive.
