    TE = 4st Enduro & TC = 4st Cross

  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

WHAT ARE THE PROS AND CONS OF THESE BIKES

I AM THINKING TO UPDATE MY BIKE TO EATHER A 2011 TE250 OR A 2011 TC250 AND WAS JUST WOUNDERING WHAT PEOPLE WITH THESE BIKES THINK

I KNOW HOW A TE250 IS FOR THE SINGLE TRACKS BECAUSE I OWN A 2010 TE250
SO IM MORE WOUNDERING ABOUT THE 2011 TC250 AND IF THIS WOULD BE A BETTER BIKE TO RIDE

THANKS
H.B

Get a 2011 TE 310, same weight, but heaps more power/torque and easier to ride, don't have to ring it's neck all the time.

Robert 61 is bang on the money. Just go for the 310.
this post is about a tc 250 v te 250
yes i have ridden the 2011 te310 and did not think it was as much fun as the 250 and in the single track a 310 would be a bit more lazy to ride than a 250

NOTE...i use to have a 2009 te 450 and im quicker on the 250

NOTE...im not saying that the 310 is a bad bike but its not for the riding i do

The TC can be quite quick & nimble in single track, but the gearing can hamper it when things get really tight. That high first gear can be a pain and a liability sometimes.
The TXC 250 might be a better choice- more nimble & lighter than the TE, yet six speed versatility and 18"rear tire.
I'd agree with the others about the 310 though. You get the best of both worlds without any handling penalty, plus you can ride it lazy, or like a demon. The best thing is always having power available, for pretty much any situation. No having to fan the crap out of the clutch coming out of tight corners into a climb & much easier to loft the front when needed. Setup properly, the 310 can be almost 2stroky in power delivery/throttle response- nothing lazy about that.

If the plate is a non-issue I'd suggest the TXC250 as it splits the difference between the TC & TE nicely and in the woods there's no replacement for the e-button. The TXC is much more TC like in engine performance but with better suspension for woods work. If the TXC is not in the equation then I'd stick with the TE for the type of riding you describe rather then the TC as the gearing and suspension are much more functional out of the box then the TC unless you're an aggressive expert skilled level rider.

'11 TC 250 is very nimble but also has no magic button which is big for me personally. Also the TC250 has the same throttle body as the TE310 which is bigger in diameter and subsequently leaves a bit of bottom end power on the table rather then on the trails. I've been riding a '10 TXC250 in the tight stuff recently and I'm very close to going with a TE310 myself but waiting for the 2012 line-up to be announced before I do. I just set up a 2011 TE250 for my girlfriend with a full Akra exhaust on it and has better bottom end then the TE310 all due to the Akra system I'm sure.

I like my '10 a lot, but I would rather ride my wife's WR125, my old WR250, or my father in-laws CRF250x in tight, technical single track. I geared my TC down 1 tooth, but still stall it on occasion, and do not attempt steep technical hills. But, I wanted an MX 250F as my all around bike....plus needed a green sticker. I wanted a light 4T to ride track and trails. Even though my TC starts 1-2 kicks hot or cold, I would rather have an E start for serious trail riding. Unless I was riding the WR125, which can be kicked when on/off the bike, left foot, right foot....you get the idea. However, if you are a super fast and aggressive rider, you may like the TC better than a strictly trail bike. Just play around with the gearing. Go with the bike you like best. You cannot go wrong with any of them in my opinion. I have 4 bikes in my garage and feel like I need another 20 to meet all my needs.

FYI, all of the 2010 and newer 250Fs share the same 1-5 gears and ratios. The TXC and TE gets a 6th gear added. I rode a TC250 last season in the woods and really liked it. If I was to due it over, I would probably run a Rekluse EXP in it to guarantee no stalls. Mine was a super starter but the odd time it would take 5-6 kicks to get it running after a fall. I have heard that the 2011 TC250 runs really good but can be a challenge to re-start.

Oops, I made an assumption based on older TCs and almost every other mx bike out there- re the 1st gear.

However- here's a tid bit- according to the 2010 parts manual the TC actually has a lower 1st gear set (14-30T) vs the TE-TXC (14-28T) & everything else the same.....(except 6th)

Some guys have complained about the TE250 having a bit too high 1st gear for tight stuff. Maybe Husky should have put the TC 1st in the TE-TXC which would widen things out overall a bit better............???

I don't have a problem with the TC in tight stuff, or anywhere else for that matter. I really like the bike, but it just dosen't suit my style. I guess I've been on the big bikes too long and have fallen into a more lazy ( I like to call it smooth ) style and can't get flow going with the 250F power.

It actually worked in gnarly stuff a lot better than I figured it would. It takes a little more clutch work than a WR250, but it really wasn't as bad as I thought. I wouldn't take it to an extreme enduro, the WR is much better for that, but it worked fine in your average harescramble stuff.

I put the EXP clutch in it, but I didn't feel like it made a world of difference. It still needs to be rode aggresive.
