  • Hi everyone,

As you all know, Coffee (Dean) passed away a couple of years ago. I am Dean's ex-wife's husband and happen to have spent my career in tech. Over the years, I occasionally helped Dean with various tech issues.

When he passed, I worked with his kids to gather the necessary credentials to keep this site running. Since then (and for however long they worked with Coffee), Woodschick and Dirtdame have been maintaining the site and covering the costs. Without their hard work and financial support, CafeHusky would have been lost.

Over the past couple of weeks, I’ve been working to migrate the site to a free cloud compute instance so that Woodschick and Dirtdame no longer have to fund it. At the same time, I’ve updated the site to a current version of XenForo (the discussion software it runs on). The previous version was outdated and no longer supported.

Unfortunately, the new software version doesn’t support importing the old site’s styles, so for now, you’ll see the XenForo default style. This may change over time.

Coffee didn’t document the work he did on the site, so I’ve been digging through the old setup to understand how everything was running. There may still be things I’ve missed. One known issue is that email functionality is not yet working on the new site, but I hope to resolve this over time.

Thanks for your patience and support!

2012 TE310 Starter issues...

Burntout

Husqvarna
A Class
Hi all,

New to the forum and off roading in general. Acquired a TE310 in June last year with 600 green lane miles and loved every minute of riding it. Have done a few enduro days and enjoyed weekly blast round the British countryside.

The bike has never really liked to start on the kick but would always on the button without fail. Just before Xmas (halfway up a long steep section) the bike wouldn't start on the button and had to kick to get it going...

Assumed it was a battery (even though it was replaced in June). Battery was tested and shown as weak but when replaced with a new one still no start...

When turning the ignition the fuel pump primes as normal. But when pushing the starter it starts to turn but doesn't get more than one tiny blip - no firing.

1) I've removed the spark plug - there's a good spark, still replaced as it was on its original.
2) When removing the spark plug and when there is no compression the starter spins freely.
3) Removed starter as this can have carbon build up -clean as a whistle no change.
4) Tested/switched relay - no joy.
5) Tested/switched all fuses - no joy.
6) Unplugged temp sensor as suggested on a forum somewhere... the fan came on and still no joy. I've read somewhere that a faulty temp sensor can cause problems and a new sensor should be here any day now.
7) Kick start - When kicking the bike smells of fuel from the exhaust and fires ever so slightly.
8) Auto decompression - when kicking the bike is no harder than a mates TE310R to kick so assume that's not a problem?
9) One way clutch - When faffing with the starter it was spinning backwards until I realized the casing was 180 degrees off. It did this freely, although not sure if this has any implication.
10) Valves (particularly exhaust valve?) - Assume this is unlikely due to it starting on the button every time then all of a sudden, nothing.

To add to the confusion a few weeks ago I managed to start the bike on the kick (after a good 15 minutes of kicking) and get to a friends bike lift. It ran fine all the way there and kicked on arrival when still hot. Ever since then -nothing!

I would be more than grateful if anyone has experience of or any ideas at this. No husky/off road shops nearby, so last resort will be to hire a van and get it somewhere. When speaking with the shop they suggested one way clutch?

Cheers :)

Check the clearance on the valves. Most people set the the auto decompression side a little on the tight side.

Temp sensor didn't make a difference so have a spare now...

I have checked all the valves and they are within spec...

So confused, it turns with the kick but doesn't fire. Huge spark.

When the spark plug is out the e start spins away freely. Put the plug back in and nothing.

Any other ideas?

Battery and battery ground.

Some have run an extra ground. Jump start it to see if a more powerful battery might help.

I had a similar issue - starter button stopped working. All fuses tested fine, battery was replaced. It would kick over and the fuel pump would prime, but zero reaction on the starter button. A friend came by with a multi-tester, and we narrowed it down to a ground wire on the clutch. Pulled back the rubber cover on the clutch and the problem was self-evident - the ground wire that plugs into the clutch had slipped off. pushed it back on and voila - bike started up with ease. I am guessing it came loose during a low speed dump when I was riding on the trails.

Electric start has never worked on my 2012 TXC 310. Kick starts easy. 20 hrs total on the bike.

Expensive lithium 150 cc battery, cleaned grounds, she just never had enough power to turn the motor over.

I assumed it was due to the tiny starter and 13:1 high compression motor. Guess I'll have to give it another look if you guys are getting it to fire.

Hi! Looking for some advice and expertise on a starting problem I'm facing with my 2011 TE310...

The e-starter seems to be bipolar; sometimes it works, sometimes it doesn't. It seems to be of electric nature, like a bad contact or something, however, I believe it is related with some kind of band sensor.

The battery is good. The valves are good. The starter motor is also good, as it works (sounds) when I press the starter button with the engine idle. Sometimes, after the bike stalls, if I press the starter button it turn on the engine, other times it doesn't do anything (I can't even ear the starter motor).

Can anyone help? If it is a sensor related problem, which one should I be looking for?

Many thanks in advance!

I have had to replace my starter motor and worm gears , was fine after , the starter motor is junk on this bike.
Hi there was reading your post.

Having starter problems with my 310r 2013 , It wasn't turning over on the button as it did before even when in gear , then fitted a new battery, it turns over and starts ok but still very sluggish , tried putting it in gear and just about turns with pushing the starter button 5/6 times , is there a better starter for this bike that can be fitted?

There was a recall on many 13 310's and many replaced starter gears under that warranty. Also consider it could be the decompressor not working well. If the bike is really hard to kick at the same time it is hard to start by the button, that could point to the decompressor. Check with a dealer and your VIN # to determine if your bike had the starter gears replaced or if it came from the factory with the improved parts. Just back off the starter completely if it's lugging or you may have issues there. No better starters, so you have to baby them.

Where is the decompressor on the 2013 310R!
